The nurse replied, “Her family members have left…”

“What? What do you mean by ‘left’?”

“Well, this pregnant lady is one of our hospital’s VIPs. She’s been hospitalized here several times before.”

Diana was confused. She was coincidentally on the night shift that day and hadn’t handled Ingrid’s case before, so she didn’t know the situation. However, the nurses were familiar with Ingrid. Not only were they familiar, but they had been worn out by her many times before. The entire nursing station would be engulfed in doom and gloom each time Ingrid came for a visit.

“What does that have to do with getting a signature from the family?” Diana asked. “Contact them immediately. We need the consent form signed before we can perform the surgery. The baby has lost its heartbeat, and the patient is still bleeding profusely. Her life could be at risk if we delay any longer.”

“But, the man who brought her here had left after dropping her off…”

Diana was furious. How could there be such a terrible husband in this world? So what if they had money? He had money to afford VIP care but didn’t have the time to stay with his wife who was bleeding profusely? These wealthy families had no sense of morality!

“Did you say she’s been hospitalized a few times before? There must have been other visitors to visit her, right? Go check the visitor log and contact someone,” Diana ordered.

“Yes, Dr. Langley!”

Evelyn was sleeping soundly when the call came in. She had her phone on silent mode, so she didn’t hear the call. The phone screen lit up and dimmed several times. After four or five instances, the phone finally stopped ringing altogether.

On the other hand, Tina picked up the call. At that moment, she was at an all-night party with some friends, having the time of her life.

“Tina, your phone is ringing.”

“Let me check…” Tina took out her phone and saw the call was from a landline number. Most of these calls were probably spam or trying to sell something. Tina hung up without even thinking about it.

A moment later, another call came in again.

This time, Tina answered the call. However, the loud music drowned out the voice on the other end. She could only catch bits and pieces of the conversation.

“What? Hospital? Ingrid again? She got herself hospitalized again? She’s unbelievable!

“Miscarriage? It can’t be, that baby in her belly is tough…

“Sign what? I don’t have the time. I’m too busy. Let her handle it herself. I’m not dealing with her nonsense.

“Hello? What did you say? I can’t hear you… Stop calling me. I know you’re a nurse, but it won’t change anything even if the hospital director calls me! I don’t have time to play along with her antics. Who does she think she is?

“Fine, that’s it. You guys just do what you need to do. I’m busy, goodbye!”

After saying that, Tina put her phone away and called out to her friends with a smile, “Alright, let’s continue! Whose turn was it to drink?”

The nurse nearly cursed in frustration when she hung up. She returned to the operating room and reported everything truthfully to Diana.

“What do you mean by ‘nobody’? Is no one willing to sign?”

“It’s exactly what it sounds like.”

Diana was shocked. “What about the patient’s own family? How about her parents? Can we reach them?”

The nurse shook her head. Lowering her voice, she whispered, “Dr. Langley, the situation with this patient is a little complicated.”

“What do you mean?”

“It seems like she got pregnant out of wedlock and tried to use the baby to marry into the wealthy family. The father originally didn’t want the baby. It was his mother who insisted on keeping it. However, the patient herself…”

The nurse paused for a moment to find the right words. “She’s quite difficult to deal with, so she has been in and out of the hospital frequently…

“The last time she was hospitalized, she had a huge argument with the man’s mother in the ward. It could be that she stirred up trouble so often that no one believed her anymore…”

Diana suddenly understood the entire situation, and her heightened emotions earlier settled down instantly. She sighed and said, “We have to perform the surgery despite not having signed consent from the family. Since we’ve made every effort to contact them, we’ll activate the emergency protocol.

“File a report to the hospital administration and check the surveillance footage of the operating room. Make sure all procedures are followed strictly to avoid any unnecessary disputes later.”

After everything was in order, Diana put on her gloves. Her gaze was calm and her expression solemn. “Prepare for surgery.”
