Listen to this chapter:

The car stopped at the entrance of an alley, and Miranda got out. Sebastian and Madison had already gotten out ahead of her.

Miranda walked in the direction of her apartment. Illuminated by the gentle moonlight, a few sparse stars dotted the night sky. The wind wasnโ€™t cooling as it carried the lingering heat of summer.

Suddenly, she stopped in her tracks. Leaning against a tree at the entrance of her apartment building, a man stood with his hands in his pockets. The moment he saw Miranda, he instinctively straightened up and smiled at her.

โ€œWhatโ€™s the matter? Are you surprised to see me?โ€ Sam walked up to her.

Miranda was stunned for a couple of seconds. โ€œA little.โ€

โ€œHave you gotten used to the new semester?โ€

โ€œYeah.โ€

โ€œIs your schedule packed?โ€

His question hit Miranda right in a sore spot. It was more than packedโ€”her schedule was overwhelming!

Sam shrugged. โ€œI already know the answer by your expression.โ€

โ€œAm I that obvious?โ€ Miranda touched her face.

โ€œNot really.โ€

โ€œThen how did you guess?โ€

Sam replied, โ€œIโ€™ve got sharp eyes.โ€

Mirandaโ€™s lips twitched with mirth.

He continued, โ€œItโ€™s too hot outside, but I know you wonโ€™t invite me up to your place. How about we find a cooler place to sit?โ€

โ€œSam is rather self-aware,โ€ Miranda thought.

โ€œI bet youโ€™re thinking that Iโ€™m a tactful guy who is quite self-aware,โ€ Sam quipped.

Miranda was taken aback.

โ€œLooks like I guessed right again, didnโ€™t I?โ€

She didnโ€™t know how to respond.

The two headed to the same cafรฉ they had visited before that was right across the street. It had air conditioning and was nice and cool.

However, Sam seemed out of place in the casual atmosphere of the cafรฉ. Dressed in a business suit, he drew plenty of attention from others in the shop.

Miranda asked, โ€œWhat do you want to drink? My treat.โ€

โ€œOreo latteโ€ฆโ€

โ€œHuh?โ€

โ€œWhy are you looking at me like that?โ€ Sam rubbed his chin thoughtfully.

Miranda fell silent for two seconds before ordering at the counter, โ€œTwo Oreo lattes, less ice with added sugar.โ€

As soon as she spoke, Sam chuckled softly. โ€œSo, you like that too. Does this mean that weโ€™re fated?โ€

Miranda replied, โ€œItโ€™s just a coincidence.โ€

Sam merely smiled. What were the odds that such coincidences could happen?

Over the years, he hadnโ€™t figured out Mirandaโ€™s food preferences completely, but he certainly knew her better than Hansel.

Soon, the lattes were ready. They sat down to chat while sipping their drinks.

Miranda asked, โ€œAlright, what did you want to talk about?โ€

โ€œCanโ€™t I just come to see you for no reason?โ€ Sam raised an eyebrow.

She hesitated for a moment before speaking, โ€œI donโ€™t think you would do that.โ€

If Sam merely wanted to chat, he wouldnโ€™t have suggested finding a cooler place to talk. Moreover, he wouldnโ€™t have shown up outside her building at night without a reason.

Even if he had come just to see her, Sam would have found a suitable excuse without appearing at her doorstep unannounced.

โ€œSo, who was the person who showed up unannounced?โ€ A sharp glint appeared in Samโ€™s eyes.

Miranda was at a loss for words. Was this the reason why he came?

โ€œDid Hansel come to see you recently?โ€

Miranda didnโ€™t want to answer his question.

However, Sam wasnโ€™t ready to drop the subject. He gave her a meaningful smile and said, โ€œLet me guess. First, he definitely showed up, and it wasnโ€™t at night.โ€

She didnโ€™t respond.

โ€œI bet he brought a bouquet of flowers too.โ€

Miranda was taken aback at this point.

Sam continued, โ€œHe definitely didnโ€™t show up at the entrance of your apartment. It wasnโ€™t at night, so it mustโ€™ve been during the day. Since itโ€™s during the day, you would be on campus most of the time, soโ€ฆ Did Hansel come to look for you on campus?โ€

Sam nailed everything completely!

Miranda couldnโ€™t help but laugh. โ€œYouโ€™re so good at guessing. Why donโ€™t you become a fortune teller?โ€

โ€œIโ€™m not interested in other peopleโ€™s destiny.โ€

She quipped, โ€œThen, what are you interested in?โ€
