Ingrid was thrown out.
โYou refused to leave when you were told to. You just had to wait to be thrown out, huh? Now get lost!โ It was pouring rain, and none of the security guards wanted to be out in it. It was all thanks to this crazy woman.
After the rain stopped, Ingrid wandered aimlessly through the streets, utterly despondent. At some point, she found herself at the gates of the National University of Technology.
Watching the students going in and out, laughing and full of energy, she was reminded that she used to be one of them.
Suddenly, she spotted a familiar face in the crowd!
โAbby!โ She rushed forward, grabbing Abigailโs arm as if clinging to her last lifeline.
Abigail was startled. The two young women accompanying her gave Ingrid a curious glance but politely said nothing.
โAbby, weโll go wait in the store,โ one of them said.
โOkay,โ Abigail replied with a smile and a nod.
Then she turned to Ingrid, her expression growing complicated. โWhatโฆ What happened to you?โ
A month ago, when she visited Ingrid in the hospital, though Ingrid looked pale, she was surrounded by comfort and luxury. Now, she stood in front of her, soaked, with her hair in disarray, looking like a ghost. โAbbyโฆโ As soon as Ingrid opened her mouth, tears began to fall. โI lost the baby, and he doesnโt want me anymore.โ
Abigail didnโt look particularly surprised. It was as though she had expected this outcome all along. What she hadnโt expected was how soon it would happen.
Ingrid clutched Abigailโs hand tightly. โI have nowhere to goโฆ Can Iโฆ Can I go back to the dorm?โ
Abigail looked shocked. โYouโve already withdrawn from university. According to the rules, youโre not allowed back. Even if I wanted to help, I couldnโt. Your bed has already been assigned to another student, soโฆโ
Ingridโs lips trembled, and her eyes filled with desperation. โAbby, please, help meโฆ I really have nowhere else to go.โ
Abigailโs expression grew pained.
โHow aboutโฆ Could you lend me some money? I swear Iโll pay you back when I can!โ
After a moment of hesitation, Abigail took out her phone. โAlright. I only have 600 in my account right now, but Iโll transfer it all to youโฆโ
โ600 dollars?โ Ingrid froze.
โYeah, itโs enough for food and a place to stay. Thatโs all I canโฆโ
โWhat can 600 do? A single outfit costs more than 600 bucks! Donโt you have any more? Canโt you ask your parents for some?โ
Abigailโs hand froze mid-action, and her gaze turned cold. The sympathy and concern she had felt moments earlier vanished entirely. โIngrid, you still donโt get it. Sorry, Iโm not even giving you the 600 becauseโฆ you deserve this.โ
Ingrid had brought this upon herself, step by step. Even now, she refused to face reality.
Abigail sighed. โI have things to do. Iโm leaving.โ
โAbbyโAbigail Norton! How can you be like this? Give me the money! Youโre just jealous of me, arenโt you? Youโre happy now that Iโve fallen so low!โ
As night fell, Ingrid wandered the streets, exhausted and hungry.
She passed by a nightclub, its front entrance glittering with gold and lights, while a small side door led out to the street. It was a place where men and women came and went.
The men were fat and slovenly, while the women wore skimpy outfits, flaunting their bodies. But upon closer inspectionโฆ
All of these women carried designer bags, from LV to Gucciโฆ Their clothes ranged from thousands to tens of thousands in price.
Ingridโs eyes turned red with envy. She, too, had once lived a life of luxury, adorned in gold and jewelsโฆ โHey, weโre hiring. Youโve been staring for a whileโinterested in applying?โ
