โNow thatโs more like it. You shouldโve said something sooner.โ
With that, Madison excitedly linked arms with Sebastian and hurried toward the campus exit. He tensed up and tried to pull his hand away, but she wasnโt letting go.
โCome on. Donโt be shy. Weโre friends.โ Then, she picked up her speed.
Sebastian blinked in disbelief that he couldnโt free his hand and wondered why she was so strong.
As they stepped outside, they nearly collided with Hansel. He had just exited his sports car with a cake in hand.
Madison frowned. โWhy does he always park right by the entrance? Doesnโt he realize it causes a traffic jam?โ
Sebastian thought briefly, saying, โMaybe he thinks it looks cool.โ
โCool? You mean because he gets to step out of a Porsche while people are staring at him?โ
โUh, yeah, maybe?โ he said.
Madison stared at Sebastian. โWait. Do you think itโs cool?โ
He shook his head. โIn our family, we think driving an Aegis is the coolest.โ
She replied, โMy dad and I, along with the uncles in my hometown, all agree that Lexus is the best.โ She paused and said, โSo why does he always drive a Porsche?โ
They exchanged puzzled glances and were unsure of the answer.
But Madison added, โThe cake heโs holding looks really delicious.โ
Sebastian noticed her practically drooling and sighed.
Hansel had been showing up at the campus gate and noticed that Miranda often hung out with Madison and Sebastian. After a few visits, he recognized their faces.
So, he approached them directly. โExcuse me, whereโs Miranda? I didnโt see her around.โ
Madison replied candidly, โShe isnโt here.โ
โWhere is she?โ
โShe took a leave of absence.โ
โWhat for?โ
โWe donโt know.โ
Hansel frowned and was ready to ask more questions. But Madison had already pulled Sebastian along. โWe have things to do. See you later.โ
Hansel felt disappointed. Dressed sharply in a suit and holding a cake in a box with cartoon characters, he stood at the busiest spot on campus and felt like a joke.
He figured this was Mirandaโs way of getting back at him. With a bitter laugh, he turned toward the trash can.
โHey!โ
He blinked and turned to see Willow smiling. โYouโre going to throw something away again?โ
โWhy does it matter to you?โ Hansel replied, annoyed.
โYou tossed flowers last time, and now itโs a cake. What are you planning to throw away next?โ
He frowned and wanted to say they werenโt close enough for this conversation.
But before he could, Willow continued, โThe flowers you threw away were actually pretty. I picked them up, put them in a water bottle, and shared them with my friends in the neighboring dorms. They even treated me to a hot latte.โ
Hansel raised an eyebrow in surprise. โYou really took them?โ
โOf course. Youโre not going to ask me for money now, huh? That wonโt happen. You said you didnโt want them, so I picked them up.โ
He was left speechless.
โWell, since we ran into each other, how about I take that cake off your hands?โ Willow said.
He scoffed. โSo, you can share it with the dorm?โ
โOf course. Itโs a big cake. I canโt eat it all, and I donโt have a fridge in my dorm. Itโs better to share it. Who knows, they might even treat me to a hot latte again.โ
โCanโt you just buy your own hot latte?โ Hansel asked.
Willow looked genuinely earnest. โWhen you buy it yourself, itโs never as good as when someone else treats you.โ
โWhyโs that? Because itโs free?โ
โExactly.โ She nodded.
Hansel smiled and handed her the cake.
Willow blinked in surprise. โAre you sure?โ
โYou donโt want it?โ
โOh, I want it!โ She quickly accepted it with a grin.
