Chapter 0515
Zachโs smile froze. โWhat do you mean? I get the โgrab my things and leaveโ part. But what do you mean by โdonโt come back?โโ
Winter replied, โYou heard me. Iโve told you that I donโt get tangled up with men Iโm working with. After last night, itโs clear weโre too involved. The only solution is to stop working together.โ
Zach slowly sat up straight, staring at her with a dark, unreadable gaze. โI wasnโt drunk last night, and judging by your reaction, you werenโt either, right?โ
โThatโs right.โ
They were both fully sober when it happened, so they couldnโt claim they were drunk as an excuse.
Zach chuckled bitterly. โSo, we just slept together, Iโm still sitting here half-naked, and youโre ready to kick me to the curb, huh?โ
Winterโs lips twitched at his words. โYou chose not to wear clothes; thatโs on you. And if you want to be kicked to the curb, I wonโt stop you.โ
โLike hell I do!โ Zachโs voice rose. โWinter, do you even realize how you sound right now?โ
She raised an eyebrow.
โLike a player who just lured a virgin to bed and now refuses to take responsibility!โ
Winter was flabbergasted and took a second to reply, โAre you the virgin in this scenario?โ
Zach was at a loss for words.
โDonโt act like youโre the victim here. Last night, we were both willing participants. Weโre adultsโstop acting like some innocent young man."
โYouโve slept with more women than I can count, Zach. Did you take responsibility for every single one of them? No?"
โThen why should I take responsibility for you? Why demand something from me that youโve never done yourself?โ
Zach had never believed in karma, but at that moment, it hit him square in the face. โWho the hell said I need you to take responsibility? Itโs not like I canโt find another woman!โ
Winter sighed in relief. โGood, then weโre on the same page.โ
Zach clenched his fists, but his face remained composed, his tone still measured. โLike you said, weโre adults. It happened, and we donโt need to dwell on it. It was just fun, nothing more."
โBut whatโs this about stopping our partnership? Are you seriously dropping everything? What happened to honoring our agreements?โ
Winter replied thoughtfully, โWhen personal feelings get involved in business, things can go south fast. You know that better than anyone. Ending things now, before it gets messy, is the smart move for both of us.โ
She hated complications, and she assumed Zach did as well.
Zach smirked, his lips pulling to the side. โMy mom video-called us last night and saw how cozy we were. Now, you want me to tell her today that we broke up? You think sheโll buy that?โ
Winter stayed silent.
โYou want to end this? Fine. But youโre going to have to deal with my mom. Once you figure that out, Iโll agree.โ
She frowned. โSo youโre giving me conditions now?โ
โCall it what you want.โ
She chuckled. โZach, do you really think I care? Whether you agree or not doesnโt matter to me. If I want to end it, I willโI can refuse to cooperate with anything moving forward, and what can you do about it?โ
Zach stared at her in disbelief. โYouโฆ youโre being a jerk!โ He was furious.
โOkay,โ she replied nonchalantly.
โYouโre worse than a player!โ
โSure.โ
โYouโre bullying me!โ
โMhm.โ
Eventually, Zach threw on his clothes and stormed out, slamming the door behind him.
He grumbled to himself, โDamn it! Iโve chased women all my life, and today I got played by one! Winter Jefferson! Youโre something else! Absolutely something else!โ
