Chapter 122 Drop The Lawsuit
โYou can head back now. Iโll be attending the companyโs anniversary celebration tonight,โ Nathaniel said impatiently.
โAll right.โ Stella cast a smug glance at Cecilia before leaving the breakfast table.
When Nathaniel turned, Cecilia was standing behind him. He felt a pang of guilt. โWhen did you wake up?โ
Ceciliaโs expression was calm. โWhen Stella proposed. Congratulations to you both.โ
Nathanielโs heart tightened. The room seemed to freeze. He looked at her intently. โIf you have any objections, say them now.โ
All she needed to do was tell him not to marry Stella, and he would have agreed. But Cecilia shook her head. โCongratulations. Iโll cooperate with the divorce proceedings, but on one conditionโyou give Elliot back to me.โ
Nathanielโs heart sank. He realized Cecilia didnโt care about him; she wasnโt concerned about his marriage. He felt deeply irritated, though he couldn't understand why. He coughed, then tossed Stellaโs breakfast in the trash.
โOrder whatever you want,โ he said, leaving for his study.
Cecilia realized his naivetรฉ. Did he really think Iโd eat what Stella sent?
After eating breakfast, she texted Nathaniel: Iโm heading to the office.
Nathaniel waited in his study, hoping for a tender word from Cecilia, but received only her short message. His face darkened.
He found sheโd already left. The kitchen was empty; she hadnโt made him breakfast. A deep ache settled in his stomach and head. He asked the driver to bring him some.
At the office, Cecilia saw a missed call from an unfamiliar number on her overseas card. It was from Tudela. She didn't return the call, instead asking someone to identify the number's owner. It was Stella.
Given Stellaโs recent plagiarism scandal, Cecilia understood the callโs purpose.
Soon, her phone rang. Using a foreign IP address and a disguised voice, she answered.
โHello.โ
โIs this Ms. Cecille? Iโm Stella. I want to talk about โRay of Light in the Dark.โ An employee unknowingly included your work. Can we discuss resolving this so you might drop the lawsuit?โ Stellaโs tone was overly polite.
โDrop the lawsuit? Simple,โ Cecilia replied calmly. โFirst, apologize to my lawyer. Then, publicly admit to the plagiarism.โ
โI can apologize, but I canโt admit to plagiarism. How much money do you want? Iโll pay whatever it takes,โ Stella said, knowing an admission would end her career.
โThen get ready for an international lawsuit,โ Cecilia said, ending the call. There was no point in prolonging the conversation.
Stella, furious, threw her phone aside.
