Chapter 135: Held Captive

Cecilia hadn't expected him to be so forthright. Recalling his previous hesitations after she initiated contact, she lacked her usual urgency. "Is this really a good idea?"

Nathaniel leaned closer. "We're still married. What's wrong with that?" He began to undo his bathrobe.

Cecilia involuntarily turned away. Nathaniel's throat tightened slightly at her shyness.

"Don't worry, I won't touch you."

Cecilia froze. It was as she suspected. "If you prefer sleeping here, I'll take the guest room," she said, turning to leave. There was no point in staying if she couldn't have what she wanted.

Nathaniel swiftly grabbed her wrist, pulling her into his arms. She landed heavily. She tried to rise, but he held her firmly.

"Don't move. You're sleeping here too. I can't sleep alone." Since her departure, he'd suffered from insomnia, trying medication and even seeing a psychiatrist to no avail. Only with her in his arms could he sleep.

Cecilia was incredulous. "You better keep your promise."

"Yes."

Cecilia lay on her side, using a blanket as a barrier. Closing her eyes, she recalled the doctor's advice before returning to Tudela: after a man loses consciousness, his awareness is essentially lost. To achieve her goal, she couldn't allow him to lose consciousness.
