Chapter 138: Stop Wasting Your Efforts

Nathaniel's face darkened, and he released Elliot. Wasn't the child overly timid?

โ€œMister, please donโ€™t hit me! I didnโ€™t do it on purposeโ€ฆ Iโ€™m scaredโ€ฆโ€

Hearing the child's cries from the room, the nannies outside initially suspected their employer had harmed him. The nanny who had cared for Elliot earlier, risking dismissal, boldly flung open the door.

โ€œMr. Rainsworth, the boy is so young, you shouldnโ€™t hit him!โ€

Upon entering, she saw the yellow stains on Nathaniel's white shirt. Realizing the cause, she looked away, embarrassed.

Elliot continued to pester the silent Nathaniel. โ€œMister, are you mad at me? Why arenโ€™t you speaking? When will you let me see Mommy?โ€

Nathaniel, somber, gently placed the boy back on the bed and went to the bathroom. There, he scrubbed repeatedly. The image of the child's face made him want to spank Elliot. How could such a gentle woman as Cecilia have birthed such aโ€ฆmonster?

An hour later, a refreshed and fragrant Nathaniel emerged. The nanny cautiously approached. โ€œMr. Rainsworth, Eli has stopped crying. He asked me to apologize, saying heโ€™s sorry and promising to behave. He hopes you wonโ€™t kill him; he wants to see his parents.โ€

The nanny was startled. Eli wasn't Mr. Rainsworth's son or relative? And the plea not to be killed? She felt she knew something she shouldn't. Would she be silenced?

Nathaniel was also stunned. Kill him? No wonder the child was terrified. Heโ€™d misunderstood.

โ€œUnderstood.โ€ He lacked the time to argue with a child.

Before leaving, he reminded the nanny to care for Elliot. She sighed in relief, still puzzled by Elliot's words.

Inside the room, Elliot listened to Nathaniel's departing car, feeling incredibly satisfied. After his and his brother's births, their mother had dealt with countless accidents. Was Nathaniel truly incapable of handling one?

Hmph, next time that semblage of a daddy came over, heโ€™d get a reckoning. Elliot had no intention of leaving quickly. Surgery wasn't an option; he'd rest and recuperate, enjoying his biological father's provisionsโ€”food, clothesโ€”and gladly tormenting Nathaniel.

Nathaniel, in the car, still mindful of the recent urination incident, unconsciously pinched the bridge of his nose.

โ€œWhere is Cecilia?โ€ he asked his bodyguard.

โ€œSheโ€™s at Daltonia Villa,โ€ the bodyguard replied.

Nathaniel checked himself thoroughly before closing his eyes. Over an hour later, the car stopped before Daltonia Villa.

Nathaniel entered, hearing piano music. Through the window, he saw Cecilia playing an unfamiliar tune. Her long hair cascaded as her fingers danced across the keys, a captivating sight. Due to her hearing impairment, she sometimes used her foot to maintain rhythm. Her hearing had improved. Years abroad had resulted in flawed musical scores, requiring repeated listening and correction. Lacking space at work to compose, she remembered Daltonia Villa's music room, a place she'd enjoyed after marrying Nathaniel.
