Chapter 151: You Have Truly Changed
Stella couldn't believe it. "Ceci, you weren't like this before when we were younger," she exclaimed. She used to be so noble. How could she now measure Nathaniel's worth with money?
Cecilia responded, "Isn't the position of Nathaniel's wife worth a hundred billion?"
Stella laughed. "You've truly changed. Back in university, you vowed never to compete with me over a man. Yet, you've not only done that, but you're demanding a hundred billion from me to win him back!"
A mocking chill filled Cecilia's eyes. "Everyone knows it wasn't me who took Nathaniel away from you. It was Nathaniel who didn't want an orphan like you."
Stella's face contorted. "Enough! Are you sure money is all you want?"
Cecilia nodded. "I hope you won't tell Nathaniel about this. If you do, our agreement is null and void. I will forever be with Nathaniel, and you'll never have a chance."
Cecilia said this intentionally, hoping Stella would tell Nathaniel. She had plans regardless of Stella's actions. If Stella genuinely intended to pay ten billion, Cecilia would accept it. However, Cecilia was certain Stella would betray herโit was her usual behavior.
"I'll give it some thought," Stella said, preparing to leave. A gust of wind rustled the sheet music on Cecilia's table; Stella glimpsed it and was momentarily surprised. She dismissed it, assuming someone with Cecilia's hearing impairment wouldn't be involved with music. Little did she know that the renowned composer, Cecille, was Cecilia herself.
After Stella left, Cecilia calmly put away the sheet music and lay down. Meanwhile, Stella pondered how to tell Nathaniel about Cecilia's request. She doubted he'd believe her, especially since she'd complained to him so often. She decided to give Cecilia a portion of the money first, then have Nathaniel witness the handover of the remainder.
The following morning, Stella, seemingly considering herself the lady of the house, arranged breakfast. Cecilia, often waking late, was still asleep. Nathaniel, having returned, was in the living room.
"Nathaniel, breakfast is ready," Stella announced.
Nathaniel glanced at her. "I've already eaten. You can leave after breakfast. I can arrange a hotel if returning home is inconvenient."
Having been rejected repeatedly, Stella, fearing Nathaniel's anger, didn't press further. "Please arrange a hotel."
After leaving, Stella immediately had a check prepared and sent Cecilia a text: "I've prepared two hundred million. Meet me at the Cross Street cafe at ten tonight. I'll hand it over to you."
Cecilia awoke at eight and saw the text. Has she agreed to give me money so easily? she wondered, sensing something was amiss. Still, curious about Stella's intentions, she replied, "Okay."
