Chapter 17: How Dare You Kick My Son?

“Okay.”

Magnus moved toward Calvin, ready to defend Cecilia. But before he could reach him, a powerful force struck him; Calvin kicked him hard. Magnus flew several meters, landing heavily and clutching his chest in pain, speechless.

Paula rushed to his aid, her eyes blazing with anger. “How dare you kick my son?”

Calvin, holding Cecilia, his gaze cold and rain dripping from his hair, approached them, transformed. Like a demon, he hissed, “Do you have a death wish?”

Terrified, Paula and Magnus remained silent.

As Calvin carried Cecilia away, he reminded Paula, “Cecilia’s will includes a recording. In it, you agreed to sever all ties with her. You haven’t forgotten, have you?”

Cecilia, even in death, didn't want her mother. She knew the recording held no legal weight, but she understood Paula's priorities. Paula valued her reputation above all else. The recording's release would forever brand her as the woman who drove her daughter to death.

With Calvin's threat hanging over her, Paula, disgraced, left with her injured son. In her car's rearview mirror, she watched Calvin cradling her seemingly lifeless daughter. Her hand clenched, nails digging into her palm. A fleeting pang of pain pierced her heart, then dissolved into cold indifference. Cecilia's death paled in comparison to informing Randy.

Meanwhile, Calvin rushed Cecilia to the nearest hospital. As she was wheeled into surgery, the words "in surgery" tightened his heart with fear.

An hour later, the doctor urgently contacted them. “The patient’s condition is critical. Where is her family?”

Calvin's heart sank. “What… what’s happening?”

“Are you a relative? Please sign this critical condition consent form. We may not be able to save her…”

Calvin's composure shattered. He grabbed the doctor by the collar. “In my world, there’s no such thing as ‘critical condition.’ If she dies, your entire hospital pays!” He threw the doctor aside.

Before the doctor could react, leading medical experts from Tudela arrived. Seeing Calvin, they bowed. “Mr. Reese.”

Calvin simply ordered, “Save her.”

“Understood.”

The doctor, finally comprehending the magnitude of the situation, realized they'd encountered a powerful figure.

Meanwhile, at Rainsworth Group, Nathaniel was distracted. Zachary, remembering the date, asked, “Weren’t you supposed to finalize the divorce today?”

Nathaniel, his brow furrowed, replied indifferently, “Cecilia changed her mind. She told me this morning she wasn’t going through with it.”

Zachary, lounging on a sofa, smirked. “I knew that deaf girl wouldn’t be so easy. She’s been playing games. If this drags on, just file for divorce…” He repeatedly called her “deaf girl.”
