Chapter 170: Came Back To Life

Mason implied that Cecilia's tantrums were acceptable for now, but warned that Nathaniel's patience would eventually wear thin. If her behavior persisted, their relationship would be irreparably damaged. Cecilia understood his subtle threat.

โ€œMr. Sanders, do you have a girlfriend or are you married?โ€

Beneath his gold-rimmed glasses, Mason's eyes glimmered. โ€œI have a fiancรฉe.โ€ He felt helpless regarding his relationship. They'd met on a blind date and fallen in love, but she was immature and prone to temper tantrums. His work commitments had led to a missed date, nearly ending their engagement. She treated marriage as a game.

โ€œShe must really like you,โ€ Cecilia observed.

Mason, like Nathaniel, was emotionally distant and indifferent. If his fiancรฉe disliked him, she wouldn't be marrying him.

โ€œWeโ€™re compatible, but not in love,โ€ Mason admitted.

โ€œI hope you maintain that perspective,โ€ Cecilia replied, returning to her work.

Mason didn't pursue the conversation. After leaving, he received a text from his fiancรฉe: "Working late again. It's always the same. Why don't you marry your company? I don't want to be with you anymore."

Mason's temples throbbed. โ€œHere we go again,โ€ he muttered. โ€œJust keep making a fuss. If she doesn't want to get married, fine. I can find another woman. If I'd known she was so immature, I wouldn't have wasted my time.โ€

Chapter 170: Came Back To Life

Nathaniel and Calvin emerged from the conference room around noon, their conversation remaining private. Cecilia was worried about Calvin. Nathaniel held considerable power, yet many of his projects stalled.

Calvin found Cecilia immediately upon leaving the meeting. โ€œCome on, letโ€™s get something to eat. Iโ€™m sorry I missed your birthday yesterday.โ€

Cecilia glanced over her shoulder.

โ€œDonโ€™t worry,โ€ Calvin reassured her, sensing her apprehension. โ€œNathanielโ€™s busy. Besides, didnโ€™t he ask you to keep me company?โ€

โ€œOkay.โ€

Cecilia quickly gathered her things and left with Calvin. The secretaries outside the CEO's office immediately whispered amongst themselves.

โ€œWho is Ms. Smith? She works for Mr. Rainsworth, but is also seen with other bosses.โ€ Most were recent hires. Nathaniel had high expectations, and aside from Mason, few lasted. However, some senior employees recognized Cecilia.

One woman, disdain etched on her face, declared, โ€œYou donโ€™t know her? Sheโ€™s Mr. Rainsworthโ€™s ex-wife.โ€

Silence fell. โ€œDidnโ€™t Mr. Rainsworthโ€™s ex-wife pass away?โ€ someone whispered.

โ€œBut she somehow came back to life,โ€ another said dismissively. โ€œEnough chatter. Letโ€™s get back to work.โ€ She resumed her duties professionally, though inwardly she intensely disliked Cecilia.

Chapter 170: Came Back To Life

How could a woman with hearing difficulties, lacking status and background, possibly be worthy of Nathaniel? His ideal secretary possessed a clean background and extensive experience. Upon leaving the conference room, Nathaniel learned Cecilia had gone out with Calvin. He didn't react angrily; instead, he dispatched his bodyguard to find them.
