Chapter 192: Playing Husband and Wife

Ever since her divorce, Cecilia hadn't considered becoming a real couple with Nathaniel. Nathaniel gently brushed away a stray strand of her hair. โ€œSay my name.โ€

Ceciliaโ€™s lips parted slightly. โ€œNathaniel.โ€

Nathaniel had intended to kiss her, but the ringing doorbell interrupted. It was the food delivery.

An hour later, they had finished eating and cleaned up. โ€œDonโ€™t you have to go to the office today?โ€ Cecilia asked.

Nathaniel sensed her desire for him to leave. โ€œNo, Iโ€™ve delegated most of the work.โ€ He should have done so long ago; as head of the corporation, he carried too much.

Cecilia worried; if he didn't leave, she couldn't retrieve the sperm sample.

Nathaniel looked at her intently. โ€œDo you really want me to go to the office?โ€

Cecilia shook her head. โ€œNo, I was just curious.โ€

โ€œThis month, Iโ€™ll set aside all my work, and we can spend quality time together,โ€ Nathaniel said earnestly.

Cecilia was surprised but nodded. โ€œGood idea.โ€

โ€œDidnโ€™t you mention wanting to return to Sparaville?โ€ Nathaniel asked casually.

Ceciliaโ€™s grip tightened on her water glass. She often mentioned her childhood home in conversations with Nathaniel during their courtship; being in love meant sharing everything.

โ€œIndeed, I did.โ€

โ€œPack after this. Weโ€™ll drive there this afternoon.โ€

They had agreed to play husband and wife for a month. When he first decided to become Ceciliaโ€™s husband, heโ€™d been unsure how to proceed. Reflecting on others' comments about honeymoons, heโ€™d decided on this.

Cecilia regained her composure. โ€œAlright, Iโ€™ll pack right away.โ€ She returned to her room.

She noticed a missed call from Vivian and returned it immediately.

โ€œHow did it go?โ€ Vivian asked eagerly.

โ€œIt was a success.โ€ Cecilia felt a strong chance of pregnancy.

โ€œThatโ€™s great, so can we take Eli with us and leave?โ€ Vivian asked.

โ€œIโ€™m not entirely sure Iโ€™m pregnant yet. Iโ€™d like to confirm it with a test before we leave.โ€ Cecilia explained their month-long charade and their afternoon trip to Sparaville.

Vivian was bewildered. โ€œWhatโ€™s this jerk up to now?โ€

โ€œNo matter what, we have to wait a month.โ€ Cecilia rested her hand on her abdomen, knowing even if pregnant, it wouldn't show quickly. Pregnancy takes about ten months.

โ€œAlright then.โ€

Fearing Nathanielโ€™s return, Cecilia ended the call quickly, packed a suitcase, and used the cleaning lady's arrival as a cover to discreetly take the sperm sample to her room. After securing it, she changed into casual clothes and went downstairs.

โ€œAre we leaving now?โ€

Nathaniel, engrossed in a book, looked up. โ€œSure.โ€

He effortlessly carried her suitcase and headed out. Cecilia, surprised, followed.

Only after placing the suitcase in the car trunk did Cecilia realize Nathaniel would drive them himself.

โ€œItโ€™ll take five to six hours to reach Sparaville. Should we ask the driver?โ€ she asked, concerned.

โ€œNo need.โ€ Nathaniel disliked outsiders on personal trips, having instructed Mason not to call unless it was important.
