Chapter 205: Feeling Suffocated

Nathanielโ€™s keen gaze caught Ceciliaโ€™s unease, but he chose not to press. Cecilia took a step back, evading his intense stare. โ€œIโ€™m going to freshen up,โ€ she said.

She had barely moved when Nathaniel seized her hand, embracing her from behind, his breath heavy against her. โ€œLetโ€™s continue,โ€ he said. Cecilia stiffened. Before she could protest, his passionate kisses found her face and neck.

โ€œI donโ€™t want toโ€ฆโ€ she quickly protested, pushing him away.

Nathaniel paused, breathing deeply. For reasons unknown, since their encounter, he found himself increasingly unable to restrain his possessiveness. โ€œWhy?โ€ he asked, his voice hoarse. Before she could answer, he pressed again, โ€œIf you didnโ€™t want it, why did you return to provoke me? What do you want? Tell me! Anything I can offer, Iโ€™ll give it to you!โ€

Nathaniel felt utterly bewildered. Heโ€™d investigated Ceciliaโ€™s past, learning of her work abroad and her four-to-five-year cohabitation with Calvin. Yet, he still didn't understand her sudden return, her presence at his side. His grip tightened, causing pain in Cecilia's shoulders.

โ€œLet me go,โ€ she whispered.

Nathaniel refused to release her, haunted by the feeling that she would vanish if he did. Their standoff was interrupted by the doorbell.

Nathaniel changed clothes and went downstairs, where Elena waited. Seeing him, she approached quickly. โ€œNathaniel, no matter what, you must bring that child to meet me.โ€ A few days prior, upon learning heโ€™d brought a child home, sheโ€™d sent investigators. Nathanielโ€™s security measures, however, remained impenetrable.

Upon hearing her demand, Nathaniel stated firmly, โ€œThe child is not mine.โ€

Elena was confused. โ€œWhat did you say?โ€ Sheโ€™d longed for a grandchild, and this news was devastating. โ€œWhose child is it then?โ€ she asked, unconvinced heโ€™d care for another's child without reason.

Nathaniel sat down. โ€œThatโ€™s none of your concern.โ€

Tears welled in Elenaโ€™s eyes. โ€œWhat do you mean, none of my concern? I want a grandchild! If you truly have the same issues as your younger brother, Iโ€™m willing to adopt.โ€

The mention of his brother chilled Nathanielโ€™s demeanor. Upstairs, Cecilia, emerging from her room, overheard Elenaโ€™s words. She was startled. Nathaniel has a brother? Why wasnโ€™t I aware?

Seeing Nathanielโ€™s displeasure, Elena said, โ€œIโ€™m leaving now. Please donโ€™t disappoint me.โ€

Soon after she left, Nathaniel saw Cecilia. Involuntarily, he thought of the unborn child. โ€œCome here,โ€ he said.

Cecilia remained rooted to the spot. Nathaniel, witnessing her coldness, felt suffocated. He rose and approached her. โ€œGet changed, letโ€™s go out.โ€

โ€œWhere are we going?โ€ she asked.

โ€œHavenโ€™t you mentioned wanting to see the ocean?โ€ he asked, his voice heavy. Cecilia was surprised he remembered. Sheโ€™d lived by the sea abroad.

He paused, then suggested, โ€œLetโ€™s go see the cherry blossoms then.โ€ He recalled her desire to visit Tidgate in the summer. However, after their marriage, sheโ€™d only traveled to find him abroad.

Cecilia looked out the window. โ€œItโ€™s autumn now; there are no cherry blossoms.โ€
