Chapter 210: Reverse Psychology

The child's reverse psychology tactics were surprisingly effective on adults. Nathaniel looked at Cecilia, his Adam's apple bobbing subtly. His thin lips parted slightly as he said, "I'm sorry."

Cecilia stared, momentarily stunned. After a long moment, she regained her composure. "It's okay," she replied.

Elliot had finally managed to elicit an apology from his difficult father, albeit unconventionally. "Dad, it's so boring being here all by myself every day. Can you and Mom take me out to have some fun today?" Elliot was adept at playing cute, and Nathaniel couldn't refuse his request. "All right," he conceded.

Nathaniel arranged everything and took Elliot to a nearby amusement park. Due to Elliot's physical condition, many activities were inaccessible. Cecilia remained vigilant, wary of any unforeseen incidents. The family of three was a striking sight at the park.

After some time, Elliot, exhausted, glanced at Nathaniel, who showed no inclination to carry him. Elliot mused that if Nathaniel weren't wealthy or handsome, he'd likely struggle to find a wife. "Dad, look at that father over there," Elliot pointed to a distant man carrying his daughter.

Nathaniel glanced, then turned to Elliot with disdain. "No way."

"But Dad, I really want you to carry me," Elliot pleaded, stopping and fixing his gaze on Nathaniel. "Don't kick me," he added, issuing his warning before Nathaniel finally relented.

This time, Elliot remained well-behaved, sitting obediently in his father's arms, pointing at various attractions. "Dad, quickly get that giant panda for Momโ€ฆ Dad, you're really awesomeโ€ฆ Dad, Mommy and I want to eat thatโ€ฆ Dad, you're the best fatherโ€ฆ"

After being embraced by Nathaniel, Elliot clung to him. Amidst the continuous praise and repeated "Dad," Nathaniel seemed to forget Elliot was Calvin's son. He held Elliot from afternoon until dusk, releasing him only when Cecilia fell asleep on his back.

"Can I carry him?" Cecilia asked, extending her arms. She had attempted to hold Elliot several times that afternoon, but each attempt was met with resistance. Perhaps due to their father-son bond, Elliot seemed particularly attached to Nathaniel. Unbeknownst to her, Elliot had intentionally worn down Nathaniel.

"There's no need," Nathaniel firmly refused. Cecilia's outstretched arms froze momentarily before she withdrew them. "It's been a long day. Thank you for indulging him in such a childish game," she said.

Nathaniel paused as they walked. The setting sun cast a dramatic light on him. "Do you think if our child were still with us, he would be like him?" he asked.

Cecilia's gaze flickered as she quickly averted his stare. "Perhaps," she replied. Nathaniel, sensing her distress, dropped the topic.

After returning Elliot to the estate, Nathaniel instructed the housekeepers to care for him. Then, he and Cecilia drove back to Daltonia Villa. The Tudela weather had turned dramatically. Just days ago, temperatures were in the thirties, but now they were in the teens. A cold wind howled during their journey home.

Upon arriving at Daltonia Villa, Cecilia almost stumbled in a gust of wind. Nathaniel swiftly moved to her side, shielding her. "Cecilia," he said.

Cecilia paused, looking at him with a puzzled expression.

"I want a child."
