Chapter 218: Infidelity During Marriage
Nathaniel, in fresh clothes, sat elegantly on the couch, his long legs seeming somewhat out of place. His damp, short hair framed chiseled features, a complex expression in his pensive gaze.
โI dismantled the door and entered,โ he replied indifferently.
Cecilia pulled her bathrobe tighter. โYou need to leave.โ
Nathaniel remained, rising to stand before her. โWhat exactly are you upset about?โ He hadnโt yet ascertained the reason and wanted to hear it directly from Cecilia.
Cecilia dismissed him. โItโs nothing. Please leave. I need to change.โ
Nathaniel remained still. โItโs not like I havenโt seen your body before.โ
A blush crept onto Ceciliaโs face. She turned away to change.
Nathaniel returned to the couch, his gaze fixed on her tense back, a sudden dryness in his throat. He realized his physical reaction and averted his eyes, checking his phone. His bodyguard had messaged: โMr. Rainsworth, we used some tactics to get the housekeeper to tell the truth. It all started with Lily, Mr. Liamโs daughter, insulting Ms. Smith. She threatened to report it to Old Mr. Rainsworth, demanding Ms. Smith leave Rainsworth Manor. Thatโs why Ms. Smith left.โ
Nathanielโs tension intensified. He replied: โBring her over.โ
He switched off his phone and looked at Cecilia, now dressed. โWhy didnโt you just tell me?โ He hadnโt known a Rainsworth housekeeper had driven his wife away.
Cecilia looked at him, a familiar sight. โIf I had told youโฆ would you have believed me?โ Unease settled in Nathanielโs heart.
She continued calmly, โWhether you believe me now or not, I donโt think youโd have defended me. Would she have dared insult or threaten me if it werenโt for you? Itโs not just her. Who in the Rainsworth family truly regards me as Mrs. Rainsworth? Like you, they see me as a fraud clinging to power, a deaf person.โ
Cecilia spoke plainly, regardless of Nathanielโs potential anger. She already had the Spring Forest Manor map and the sperm sample; the worst outcome would be a separation. For her sons, she was fearless.
Nathaniel listened to her accusations. Lily had wronged her, so why was he suddenly at fault?
He retorted, โAre my assumptions wrong? Havenโt you lied to me?โ He caught himself before mentioning her hearing impairment. In the past, he wouldnโt have hesitated, but now, seeing her tears, he couldnโt bring himself to hurt her. The words were out, however, and the corners of Ceciliaโs eyes reddened.
โThatโs right,โ she said. โYour assumptions are correct. I am a fraud, and I am disabled. So, I implore you, Mr. Rainsworth, to show some mercy. Please return my son to me and let us go free.โ
Nathaniel clenched his fists, his knuckles cracking. He sneered, โBy the way, you forgot one thing. Thereโs also your infidelity during marriage.โ
He rose, standing before her. โYou treat me like this and still expect me to let you off the hook easily?โ
