Chapter 253: The Blood Test Results
A loud boom echoed in Nathaniel's mind.
โDid you send someone to look for her?โ
โIโve searched everywhere, but I didnโt see her.โ
Nathaniel clutched his mobile phone tightly. In that instant, all his hopes and dreams seemed to vanish. He hung up, then calmly told the driver, โDrive faster!โ
โUnderstood.โ
The driver hadn't even registered Nathaniel's urgency before being abruptly dismissed. Nathaniel took the wheel, flooring the accelerator recklessly toward Spring Forest Manor. He called his bodyguard en route: โFind Cecilia immediately. If you canโt find her, you might as well kill yourselves!โ
Even though the drive was only twenty minutes, it felt agonizingly long. He repeatedly dialed Cecilia's number, but each call went unanswered. His eyes burned.
Arriving at Spring Forest Manor, he burst inside. The frightened housekeeper handed him a letter and two blood test results. The letter, in elegant script, read:
Nathaniel, by the time you read this, I will have left Tudela. Please, donโt look for me. We both know thereโs no love between us, so why the animosity? You never loved me, but I donโt hate you, or resent you, because I know I chose wrongly.
Nathanielโs hand trembled. The letter continued:
Before leaving, I wanted to clear up a matter of credit. Whether you believe me or not, I must tell you the truth. I saved Zachary and your mother. If you doubt me, check these blood test results. One is mine, the other Stellaโs. Your mother and I share the same O-type blood; Stella has type A. She couldn't have donated blood to your mother.
Stella's blood test report was something Cecilia had obtained only after considerable effort.
The letter concluded: If you don't trust this report, verify it yourself. This is all I wanted to say. Take care, and goodbye.
The finality of the goodbye struck him hard. Nathaniel ignored the blood tests. He only wanted to find Cecilia, to understand why sheโd secretly left again. This time, however, his reaction differed.
He immediately mobilized everyone, himself included, in the search. He remained sleepless for a day and night. In the early hours of the morning, a heavy snowfall blanketed Tudela. Nathaniel sat in his car, listening to a subordinate's report:
โMartha vanished from Erihal a half-month ago, and Cecilia hasnโt returned there.โ
A half-month agoโฆ Sheโd been planning this escape while I was trying to keep her here.
The secretary handling the property transfer called, informing him that the Smith residence transfer was complete. Without a word, Nathaniel drove there. He'd picked her up from there when he brought her to Daltonia Villa.
Mason held an umbrella as Nathaniel stepped from the car. โMr. Rainsworth, donโt worry. Weโll find them.โ
โGo get some rest.โ
โAnd you?โ Mason asked, perplexed.
โI have something else to attend to.โ
Nathanielโs calmness was unnerving. After Mason left, he stood alone in the snow.
The next morning, Mason found a large snowman outside the Smith residence. Nathaniel was still there. Mason approached, asking, โDoes it look good?โ
โShe used to love building snowmen. Isn't it rather childish?โ
