Chapter 267: My First Time
Cecilia initially believed Nathaniel would depart quickly. To her surprise, he established a branch company in Moontown, near her residence. Nathaniel was undeniably a business prodigy, quickly befriending the city's elite. Each morning, Cecilia received extravagant gifts and flowers, which she consistently discarded.
Nathaniel then astounded everyone by purchasing her entire neighborhood and moving into the adjacent house. Their balconies now offered a direct view of each other. One day, while composing music, Cecilia noticed Nathaniel on his balcony.
"If you enjoy living here, we can make this our permanent home," he declared solemnly.
Cecilia remained silent, returning to her room. Meanwhile, Mason arrived with a renovation crew. Observing Nathaniel gazing at Cecilia's house, he understood his employer's longing.
"Mr. Rainsworth, the house next door is yours. If you wish to see Mrs. Rainsworth, you may visit anytime," Mason suggested, already using the familiar term for Cecilia. He had just received the keys to her rented house, which he promptly gave to Nathaniel.
Nathaniel took the keys, then inquired, "How are things back home?"
"Company elders are subdued, but Adrian and Miranda continue their machinations," Mason reported.
Nathaniel dismissed the concern. "Don't bother with them." Adrian and Miranda posed little challenge.
"And Nicholas?"
After a pause, Mason replied, "I'm unsure. Since you left Tudela, Nicholas left Rainsworth Manor. His whereabouts are unknown."
A flicker of concern crossed Nathaniel's face. He wasn't worried about Adrian and Miranda, but his brother's absence was a different matter.
"Find out where he is."
"Understood."
Nathaniel initially considered a cigarette, but refrained, remembering Cecilia's adverse reaction to the smell. She had seemed nauseous.
"She shouldn't still be angry, right?" Nathaniel asked Mason, his tone serious.
Mason hesitated. How could I know if Cecilia is still angry? Given Mr. Rainsworth's past treatment, it's not something easily mended by a few days of gifts. He remained silent, and Nathaniel took this as confirmation.
Night fell. Seeing Cecilia's lights off, Nathaniel bypassed the keys and climbed onto her balcony. Cecilia slept poorly, her pregnancy and homesickness causing nightmares. She awoke to a strong embrace.
"Who's there!" she cried, startled.
In the darkness, she couldn't see her assailant. Instinctively, she bit the hand holding her.
Nathaniel winced, but didn't release her. "It's me," he whispered.
Hearing his voice, Cecilia relaxed slightly. "Nathaniel, how did you get in? Get out!"
Nathaniel, having finally reached her, refused to leave. "Please stop being upset," he pleaded.
"I'm not throwing a tantrum," Cecilia retorted coldly.
Despite the bite, Nathaniel held her tightly. His hand ached, but the pain in his chest was far greater. "This is my first time being someone's husband," he confessed. "It's also the first time I truly liked someone."
