Chapter 293 Will You Leave Me
Elena hastily left the ward. Cecilia rose to follow, but a bodyguard stopped her at the ICU entrance. "Sorry, Madam Elena said only she's allowed on the second floor." Cecilia returned to the ward to wait, hoping Nathaniel was alright, especially his eyes. It wasn't love, but a desire to avoid owing him anything.
After some time, a bodyguard knocked. "Ms. Smith, Madam Elena requests your presence." Cecilia went to the second floor, noting the tight securityโonly Elena, bodyguards, and staff were present. A guard announced her arrival to Elena, who stood in the doorway, eyes swollen and red. "Nathaniel wants to see you."
Cecilia entered, seeing Nathaniel bandaged, his features obscured by gauze and medical equipment. A jarring image of her accident-victim father flooded her mind. She remained several feet away, watching, her throat dry. Nathaniel lifted a hand, murmuring, "Ceciโฆ" He usually used her full name.
Cecilia approached, saying, "I'm here." He sighed with relief. "I'm in so much pain, Ceci," he said.
Cecilia was startled by his demeanor. Even more shocking were his next words: "Ceci, chase these people away. I don't know them. You know I don't like strangers."
"What did you say?" Cecilia asked, turning to Elena, whose tears flowed. The doctor explained, "The accident caused amnesia. He doesn't remember anything. He woke up calling for you."
Cecilia was incredulous. "How could this be?" Before she finished, Nathaniel ripped off his medical equipment, collapsing with a thud. Elena and others panicked, calling his name. He resisted help, his hand groping, "Ceci! Where is Ceci? I'm scared!"
The doctor urged Cecilia, "Ms. Smith, please talk to Mr. Rainsworth." She rushed to him, taking his hand. "I'm here. Come, get back into bed." He obeyed. The doctor and nurse treated his wounds.
Cecilia gazed at the scars on his abdomen, legs, hands, and face. He seemed impervious to pain, holding her hand, murmuring, "Ceciโฆ I can't see anymore. Will you hate me because of this?"
