Chapter 316: The Amount Seems Familiar
Right after marrying Cecelia, Nathaniel instructed Mason to give her a credit card with a credit limit of approximately one million two hundred thousand dollars.
Back then, Mason had said, โHereโs a card with a credit limit of one million two hundred thousand dollars, which will be your monthly living expenses provided by Mr. Rainsworth. Remember, Mr. Rainsworthโs money didnโt just fall from the sky. After making any purchases, be sure to keep track of your expenses.โ
When Cecelia agreed to live with Elena and Nathaniel, she had already resolved to repay Nathaniel for her hardships in the Rainsworth residence. She hoped to subtly challenge him while also aiding his memory recovery. It would be a blow to a man's pride to receive money from a woman and be required to account for its use, especially a man as proud as Nathaniel.
Yet, to her surprise, Nathaniel showed no signs of anger upon accepting the card. In fact, he seemed pleased. โCeci, let me know what you want to buy. Iโll buy them all at once.โ
โThat wonโt be necessary,โ Cecelia replied, slightly taken aback. Let's see how long you can keep this up.
Cecelia then retreated to her room to rest. Not long after, Mason arrived, diligently cleaning. He was also incredulous upon learning about the shareholdersโ meeting incident, finally understanding why Elena had dismissed him. How could Elena be so heartless? Mr. Rainsworth is her son!
After cleaning, Mason did the dishes. Nathaniel called him to the car and presented him with a card.
โYes, Mr. Rainsworth?โ
Nathaniel smiled faintly. โCeci gave me some money and told me to buy a dishwasher and a robotic vacuum cleaner.โ
Mason was bewildered, but Nathaniel continued, unexpectedly cheerful. โShe mustโve thought I was short on cash. I did offer her a gold card before, but she turned it down.โ
When Cecelia learned of his dismissal earlier that day, she gave him the card that evening. He believed she was worried about him being penniless due to his stolen identity. Hearing this, Mason sensed Nathaniel might have misunderstood. โMr. Rainsworth, how much money did Mrs. Rainsworth give you?โ
โOne million two hundred thousand,โ Nathaniel replied. โShe also promised to give me the same amount every month.โ
That figure was familiar to Mason. It took him a moment, but he recalled: one million two hundred thousandโฆ wasnโt that the allowance he used to give Mrs. Rainsworth on Nathanielโs behalf? It seems she's getting back at Mr. Rainsworthโฆ
Mason was relieved Nathaniel had misinterpreted. If Nathaniel knew the truth, it would break his heart.
โKeep this card safe and donโt simply spend the money,โ Nathaniel instructed Mason. โHave someone buy a robotic vacuum and a dishwasher. And remember to keep track of the spending.โ
โAll right, Mr. Rainsworth,โ Mason responded. He held the card, wondering if Nathaniel would be infuriated upon regaining his memory.
Nathaniel then inquired about recent company developments. Nicholas had taken over, and Mason, along with several secretaries and assistants familiar to Nathaniel, had been dismissed. Nathanielโs wealth far exceeded the publicly rumored hundreds of billions, so Mason had no concerns about his employer's ability to pay.
Mason shared all he knew, including Nathanielโs international influence. โThatโs all I know for now, Mr. Rainsworth,โ Mason admitted. โAs for the rest, weโll have to wait for you to regain your memory.โ Mason believed there was more to Nathaniel than met the eye, much that even he was unaware of.
โFirst, you need to find a job. Be careful when you visit in the future. Make sure no one tracks you down,โ Nathaniel advised seriously.
โGot it, sir.โ
The following morning, Cecelia awoke to find Nathaniel already up. Besides the prepared breakfast, she noticed the new robotic vacuum cleaner and dishwasher, their receipts neatly placed on the table.
