Chapter 336: Checking In on Cecilia
Nathaniel vaguely recalled something from five years ago: leaving Cecilia alone on their wedding day, and seeing her tears after her father's death, yet showing no concern, consumed as he was by the Smith family's deception. His headache intensified, hindering his recollection. He turned to Martha.
โMartha, I canโt agree to your request,โ he said. โI canโt bear to see the woman I love marry another man. I promise to change and treat her well. Iโll never hurt her again.โ
Martha remained skeptical. โYour current transformation stems from your blindness. If you were well, you would never have been kind to Cecilia.โ
Nathaniel was speechless. He realized Martha needed to witness his change firsthand. Upset, Martha retreated to her room.
Nathaniel, still unfed, learned from the caregiver that Cecilia wouldn't return for a few days. He called her.
Cecilia had already returned to Tudela. She'd secured Norman's bail and visited Vivian and Jonathan. Their dinner was interrupted by Nathaniel's call. Stepping outside, she answered.
โWhatโs the matter?โ
โWhere are you?โ Nathaniel asked.
Cecilia refused to disclose her location. โItโs none of your business. Iโve hired a caregiver for Martha. I wonโt be back for a few days.โ
Nathaniel discreetly traced her phone's IP address, discovering she was in Tudela. Uneasy, he arranged transport.
Chapter 336: Checking In on Cecilia (Continued)
โBe sure to stay safe, and call if anything happens. Itโs cold; stay warmโฆโ
Vivian interrupted, prompting Cecilia to end the call. She'd noticed Nathaniel's increased talkativeness.
Vivian whispered, โWas that Nathaniel?โ
Cecilia nodded.
โHow dare he check on us? Does he think heโs still the all-powerful Nathaniel?โ Vivian scoffed.
Cecilia chuckled. โLetโs forget him and eat.โ
Jonathan appeared. โMommy, whoโs checking on us?โ
Cecilia quickly explained, โItโs Martha. She was worried about me being here alone.โ
Jonathan sighed. โWhy didnโt you let me talk to Grandma Martha? I miss her.โ
โWeโll call her after dinner,โ Cecilia said gently.
They resumed their meal. Cecilia spoke of Paula and Magnus. Jonathan was shocked by his grandmother and uncle's shamelessness. The eighty billion stolen from his father presented a significant problem if investigated.
โPaula is shameless. After your fatherโs death, she and Magnus received most of his assets, and now she wants more.โ
โDonโt worry, I wonโt give them anything.โ Cecilia had repaid her debt to Paula, but her current life was owed to Martha, Calvin, and the doctors. Vivian also wanted to help, but her license had been revoked. Cecilia reassured her, โI have something to prevent Paula and Magnus from getting anything.โ
