Chapter 352: Teach Him a Lesson
Nathaniel hastily stuffed the carrot and meat into his mouth. Jonathan shuddered. "It tastes so bad," he muttered, "yet... 'mbag daddy ate it all, huh?"
After swallowing, Nathaniel declared, "I love everything my darling cooks." Cecilia finally withdrew her gaze. Listening to Nathaniel repeatedly call Cecilia "darling," Calvin felt despondent. He served Nathaniel more food. "I made this carrot dish. Right, Ceci?"
"Mm, that's right," Cecilia replied, feeling awkward yet oddly satisfied by Nathaniel's repeated setbacks. She'd never seen this side of him before. She served him more carrots. "Eat more if you like it."
Jonathan's eyes filled with astonishment and sympathy at the towering pile of carrots on Nathaniel's plate. "Mr. Rainsworth, if you like them so much, you can have mine, too," he offered, his innocent expression masking a gleeful inner monologue. Scumbag daddy, don't blame me for being heartless. A man without ruthlessness isn't a true man.
As Jonathan offered his carrots, Nathaniel asked, "Jon, what did you learn in preschool today?" Jonathan's raised fork dropped. Nathaniel continued, "Do you also like carrots? You can have all of mine, okay?"
Jonathan wanted to refuse, but before he could, Nathaniel said, "Ceci, do you know what Jon did todayโฆ"
"All right, Mr. Rainsworth, you can give me all of it. I love carrots," Jonathan said, promptly transferring the carrots. Cecilia and Martha watched in surprise.
Jonathan detested carrots. As a baby, they made him nauseous. Cecilia was shocked, wondering when Nathaniel had realized Jonathan wasn't Elliot. Calvin had expected Jonathan to side with him, but it seemed the biological father-son bond was stronger. He found his food tasteless.
After the meal, Calvin left, Cecilia seeing him off. "Goodbye." "Mmm-hmm." Calvin gazed at her intently before departing. Soon after, a large vehicle blocked his path, and a dozen henchmen emerged. Calvin's eyes narrowed. Mason, in a nearby sedan, ordered, "Teach this insolent fool a lesson." He'd been stationed there after receiving a call from Nathaniel.
Meanwhile, Martha praised Calvin to Nathaniel: "Calvin's had a tough life. He manages a big company, cooks, and doesn't smoke or drink. I wonder which lucky lady will win his heart." Nathaniel ignored her; Calvin's fate remained uncertain. Cecilia, unconcerned by Martha's words, believed Calvin felt only friendship for her.
She glanced at Jonathan, still eating. "Jon, I thought you didn't like carrots?"
Jonathan, close to tears, replied, "They're surprisingly tasty today."
"That's great. How about I make this for you often?"
Nathaniel perked up. That night, two figures, large and small, toiled in the kitchen.
