Chapter 394: Visiting Rainsworth Manor
Despite Mason's remark, Cecelia remained calm. "What does that have to do with me?" she asked. She recalled enduring humiliations at Rainsworth Manor, yet Nathaniel had never offered assistance.
Mason choked back emotion, lowering his voice. "Since Mr. Rainsworth once saved you, could you please help him?"
Cecelia was reminded of Nathaniel's help with Simon abroad. She fell silent, then responded, "What could I possibly do? One is blind, the other hard of hearing. Am I truly of any help?"
Cecelia bluntly acknowledged the reality: the Rainsworths, with their social standing, would likely disregard her. Mason was speechless. Assuming he would give up, Cecelia stood to pay the bill.
Suddenly, Mason interjected, "I'd feel much more at ease with you there." He knew Cecelia's resilience could manage Rainsworth Manor.
Before Cecelia could reply, Elliot chimed in, "Mommy, Mr. Rainsworth is so pitiful; everyone abandoned him. Can't you help him?"
Jonathan, confused by his brother's sudden support of their father, questioned the situation. "All right then," Cecelia conceded, "I'll take the children home first."
Mason paid the bill, and they left for home. After dropping off the children, Cecelia instructed Sven to drive her to Rainsworth Manor.
At home, Jonathan questioned Elliot. "Why did you want Mommy to help our father? What if someone takes advantage of her?"
"Jon, I want to visit Rainsworth Manor too. Can you get us there?" Elliot asked.
Jonathan immediately rejected the idea. "No. It's too risky."
"Nothing ventured, nothing gained," Elliot replied seriously. "How can we seek revenge and reclaim what's ours if we don't understand the Rainsworth family?"
He blamed the Rainsworths and his father for his mother's misfortune and their exile, holding them responsible for his father's absence and his illness.
Jonathan, unmoved, responded indifferently, "I've been to Rainsworth Manor many times; there's nothing new to discover. You're unwell; rest." He went to his room.
Elliot, however, began planning. While Jonathan bathed, he used his phone watch to find Elena's secretary's number. He called, pretending to be Jonathan. Elena's secretary, recognizing the number, connected the call.
"Grandma Elena, Happy New Year!" Elliot greeted warmly. "I miss you. Can I visit?"
Elena was overjoyed. "All right. I'll send a car."
"No, I can go myself," Elliot replied. "Could someone open the door when I arrive?"
After hanging up, Elliot carefully put away Jonathan's watch. "Jon, I'm going to sleep now," he said, then layered his clothing, shut his door, and slipped out to hail a taxi to Rainsworth Manor. A sharp glint was in his gaze as the cold wind howled outside.
