Chapter 401: The Suspicion of Elena

Upon hearing someone call his name, Elliot turned to see Felix. Puzzled, he thought, "Who is this?"

Felix approached. "What's wrong, Jon? Why were you ignoring me?"

Elliot gave him an impatient glance. "Is there something you need?"

His youthful voice, so unlike Jonathan's usual serious demeanor, surprised Felix. "Why are you acting so...delicate, Jon?"

Elliot's expression darkened. "You're the delicate one! Your whole family is!"

Felix giggled. "But it's adorable! You came to play, right? I'll show you around. I know the Rainsworth residence like the back of my hand."

Elliot found this strange. "What do you mean, you know every part of it?"

"I'm Felix Rainsworth, the only grandson in the direct line," Felix declared proudly.

The name sparked a memory. Jon had mentioned his father's cousin had a son named Felix. He sized up the boy, fair-skinned and pleasant-looking, though a bit simple.

"Oh, I remember now," Elliot said, then walked away. "If it's nothing important, don't bother me."

Felix watched him go, disheartened. Why is Jon ignoring me? he wondered. Did I do something wrong?

He followed Elliot. "I'll let you play with my dad's new airplane model, Jon."

"No, thanks," Elliot replied, feeling Felix was only a hindrance to his exploration of the Rainsworth residence. "Stop following me, or I'll beat you up."

Felix, remembering past unpleasantness, stopped and watched Elliot leave. He returned home dejected, recounting the events to his mother, Miranda.

Meanwhile, Elliot spent the morning exploring the Rainsworth residence, marveling at its size and luxury. He vowed to build an even bigger house someday. Exhausted, he was driven home.

Unbeknownst to him, Cecilia had arrived. She asked Elena, "Where's the child?"

Elena, tired after a sleepless night, replied, "Are you referring to Jon?"

Cecilia then realized she'd mistaken Elliot for Jonathan. "Yes. Where is he?"

Elena found this odd. Vivian, Jon's mother, hadn't come to collect him, yet Cecilia had appeared. Too tired to investigate further, she was about to call the housekeeper when Elliot entered.

Seeing Cecilia, Elliot froze, instantly realizing he'd been discovered. He lowered his head, silent.

Relieved to see her son, Cecilia scooped him up and left, unaware of the peculiar look in Elena's eyes.

"Jonathan... Cecilia..." Elena murmured. She asked her secretary, "Didn't you say Vivian never had..."

The secretary nodded.

If the child isn't Vivian's, could it be Cecilia's? Elena realized. "Have someone follow Cecilia and investigate her relationship with the child."

"Understood," the secretary replied, leaving to carry out her instructions.
