The room fell silent. No one paid him any attention.

Unfazed, Zachary continued, “Cecilia, just tell me what you’d like to buy, and I’ll get it for you.”

Cecilia felt certain Zachary was up to something. “No need. I have my own money.”

Zachary, slightly embarrassed, stammered. “Nathaniel, what about you? Need anything?”

Nathaniel countered, “Do you need something?”

Zachary, met with cold indifference, persisted. “Do I need a reason to hang out with you?”

Elena had asked Cecilia to help with the engagement venue setup, so she left after speaking to the men.

Once Cecilia was gone, Nathaniel’s coldness intensified. “If you’re finished, you should leave.”

“Nathaniel, you’re breaking my heart! At least pour me a drink?”

Nathaniel ignored him and went upstairs, leaving Zachary alone. Zachary, however, had no intention of leaving immediately. He settled onto the sofa and turned on the television.

The news showed Stella, her face tear-streaked. Zachary’s relaxed demeanor vanished. “Didn’t Nathaniel have her committed? How did she escape?”

He rose, heading for the door, pulling out his phone. “You have half a day. Bring Stella to me.”

Less than two hours later, Stella was back at the Tudela Psychiatric Hospital. The blindfold removed, she recognized her surroundings.

“I’m not crazy! Let me go!” she shrieked.

The door burst open, blinding light illuminating Zachary’s silhouette. His leather shoes echoed as he approached. Zachary resented Stella even more than Cecilia.

Stella looked up, her eyes adjusting to the light. “Zach… Zach…” She clung to his leg. “Zach, you must save me! You promised to protect me.”

Zachary showed no sympathy. “Stella, are you still trying to use me? The person I vowed to protect is Cecilia!”

Her voice choked with tears. “But we’ve been together for years! We’re still friends, aren’t we?”

“Do you think you’re worthy of my friendship?” Zachary chuckled mirthlessly. Without their history, she would be dead. He was simply too soft-hearted.

Stella realized Zachary had brought her here; Nathaniel, now blind, couldn't handle such matters.

“Why did you bring me here? I’ve admitted my wrongdoings.”

“What’s the use? You’re insane! You belong in a mental hospital, not ruining others’ lives.”

Zachary turned to leave. Stella, desperate to escape, grabbed his arm, pulling herself up to kiss him.

“Zach, I know you’ve always had feelings for me. Can we be together?”

Before her lips touched him, Zachary shoved her away.

“You are disgusting.”

He stormed to the door, ordering his men, “Make sure she understands her position.”
