Cecilia was bewildered. “What do you mean?”

“Stop playing dumb. Why would Nicholas call you Ceci privately?” Cassandra’s eyes blazed with anger.

Cecilia explained that they had known each other since childhood. Cassandra remained unconvinced. “Be honest. Are you trying to steal Nicholas from me? Have you set your sights on him now that you’re no longer interested in Nathaniel?”

Cecilia found Cassandra unreasonable. “I’m married to Nathaniel. How could I steal Nicholas?”

“Don’t think I’m clueless! You and Nathaniel have been considering divorce!” Cassandra shuddered, recalling Nicholas calling for Cecilia during their intimacy. “No one steals a man from me, not even Paula’s daughter! Just you wait.”

Cassandra stormed off. Cecilia didn’t take her words to heart; she’d long accepted the situation and never considered reuniting with Nicholas.

Returning to her room, Cecilia began packing to leave, uneasy about leaving Martha and Elliot alone in Sparaville. Nathaniel helped her.

“Your brother just got engaged. Want to stay longer?”

“No, I’ll go home with you.”

“All right.”

They packed, and at dawn, they bid farewell to Elena and departed. Snow fell heavily. The driver stopped abruptly. Lowering the window, Cecilia saw Nicholas standing in the snow.

He approached and handed her a bag. Puzzled, Cecilia asked, “What is this?”

“The engagement gift,” Nicholas replied gently.

Cecilia accepted it without hesitation. Then Nicholas said to Nathaniel, “There are some things I’d like to discuss with you privately.”

Nathaniel took Cecilia’s hand. “Wait for me,” he whispered. Cecilia, wanting to avoid giving Nicholas the wrong impression, didn’t pull away. “All right,” she replied, watching them walk off.

With Cecilia gone, the tension between the brothers became palpable. Nicholas glanced back at Cecilia, then said slowly, “Nathaniel, when do you plan to return Cecilia to me?”

A cold smirk touched Nathaniel’s lips. “Return? Did Cecilia marry you and have children with you?” The implication was clear: they were married, and there was no going back.

Coldness flashed in Nicholas’s eyes. “How can you contend with me when you’re blind? I will soon control Orion Corporation.”

“Let’s talk once you do,” Nathaniel replied, uninterested. His brother had always been a wolf in sheep’s clothing, outwardly gentle but inwardly ruthless.

After Nathaniel left, Nicholas texted Cecilia: “If anything upsetting happens, let me know. I’ll always be there.”

Cecilia saw the message but didn’t reply. After Nathaniel got into the car, she put away her phone and asked, “What did you two talk about?”

“Just some chatter.”

Nicholas might have seemed mature, but he was incredibly childish. Cecilia was married to Nathaniel, and the child she carried was undoubtedly his. There was no way he would give her back to Nicholas.
