Chapter 472: Yearning for Familial Bonds

Cassandra, her half-sister from the same mother but a different father.

When Cecilia learned the answer, a stunned silence followed. Sven continued, โ€œWhen I investigated yesterday, I learned their intention was to abduct and humiliate you.โ€ The stiff way Sven uttered those last two words left no doubt about his meaning. Cecilia clenched her hands. โ€œI understand.โ€

After the call, Cecilia couldn't comprehend Cassandra's intense resentment. The only offense she could think of was her past involvement with Nicholas, a connection that no longer existed. Cecilia then asked Charlotte to send Cassandra's number; they had collaborated before. Charlotte quickly complied, then asked, "Boss, are you planning to continue working with her? She contacted me a few days ago about purchasing more compositions. I haven't asked you yet." Cecilia replied, "No, I have personal matters to attend to." Charlotte responded, "Ohโ€ฆ" A moment later, she sent another message: "By the way, Boss, someone's been secretly investigating the vacant studio we registered." The studio served as Cecilia's public front since her return. Cecilia immediately recognized the hand of Tudela. She replied, "Don't worry, focus on your work." Charlotte agreed, adding a silent vow to retaliate if necessary. Despite her gentle appearance, Charlotte was the international women's kickboxing champion.

Cecilia no longer worried about the investigation. She'd originally registered the studio to conceal her work from Nathaniel, but his amnesia removed that concern. After ending her conversation with Charlotte, Cecilia called Cassandra, intending a serious discussion.

Cassandra, having just finished a performance, was removing her makeup backstage when her phone rang. She answered casually.

"It's me, Cecilia."

Cassandra's breath hitched. Her attempt to cause trouble by hiring someone hadn't been clever; a simple investigation had exposed it.

"What do you want?" Her tone was guilty.

"Let's meet and talk."

Cecilia then sent a suggested time and place. A faint twitch of annoyance played at the corner of Cassandra's mouth. "Who does this bitch think she is?" she muttered.

Cecilia wasn't concerned about Cassandra's attendance; her next message contained the evidence Sven had uncoveredโ€”proof of Cassandra's order to harm her. Even if insufficient for jail time, it would tarnish Cassandra's reputation. Cecilia wasn't one to stir up trouble, but she wasn't afraid of it either. Her willingness to speak with Cassandra stemmed primarily from their half-sisterly bond, a fact she assumed Cassandra didn't know.

Cecilia informed Martha of her plans, stating she wouldn't return until late. Elliot quickly offered, "Mommy, why don't I come with you?" Cecilia shook her head. "Stay home and chat with Grandma Martha. You have a hospital checkup this afternoon." "Okay," he replied.

After Cecilia left, Martha watched her go, murmuring, "Ceci is so desperate for familial bonds." It was human nature to yearn for what one lacked. Cecilia had experienced little affection growing up; aside from Regas, she'd known little familial love. Discovering Cassandra was her biological sister had created exceptionally complicated emotions.

At a small highway eatery in Tudela, Cassandra awaited Cecilia. Like Paula, she valued her reputation.
