Chapter 598 The Spokesperson
He, a renowned singer, surprisingly agreed to become the spokesperson for a medication aimed at treating men's kidney problems. Advertising slogans about men being too weak further fueled Eric's irritation. โDidnโt you say I was supposed to be the companyโs spokesperson?โ he demanded.
Upon receiving the advertisement, the agent gasped. โHey, I think there might be a misunderstanding. Eric is an international singer. This advertisement would put him in a difficult situation.โ The rush to sign the contract stemmed from recent scandalous rumors; several previous endorsements were teetering on cancellation, demanding hefty compensation.
Beneath his gold-rimmed glasses, Mason's eyes gleamed with mockery. Daring to seduce a married woman and still wanting to be the companyโs spokesperson? โMr. Palmer is only suitable for such advertisements now. His presence might damage our corporate image,โ Mason stated.
Eric leapt to his feet. โYouโre messing with me! Iโm not doing it!โ He started to leave.
A chill settled in Masonโs eyes. โYouโre free to go, but you must pay the five hundred million dollar penalty for breaking the contract.โ
As Nathaniel's personal assistant, Mason was influential. He knew Ericโs vulnerability: a lack of funds. Thankfully, recent internet news exposed this weakness.
Five hundred million? Rage consumed Eric. He lunged at Mason, but Mason deftly evaded the attack. โMr. Palmer, donโt say I didnโt warn you. We have the best legal team. Assault will increase your compensation. Think carefully. You wouldn't want your father, over sixty, to repay this debt, would you?โ
Holding the contract, Mason strode out. The agent restrained the furious Eric.
If Eric had assaulted Mason, his reputation would have been shattered. Even a superstar could be ruined by assault or involvement with a married woman.
The agent found Mason familiar. โEric, this company seems to be targeting you,โ he remarked. โTypically, superstars are used to their full potential. Why this advertisement? It's like sabotaging their own talent.โ
โDid you offend someone?โ the agent pressed.
Calm returned to Eric. โWho could I have offended?โ
โI checked the person in charge at Imminence Corporation; we have no past grievances. Itโs strange.โ The agent had investigated a public figure from Imminence, not Nathaniel.
In his office, Nathaniel subtly raised an eyebrow at Mason's report. So what if heโs a celebrity? Nathaniel aimed to ruin Eric, curious to see if Cecilia would still find him appealing.
โMr. Rainsworth is handsome, right? Iโll send him to Alendor to shoot this commercial,โ Mason said, a master of subtle harm. Nathaniel's silence implied consent.
Imminence Corporation feared nothing; celebrities, however, couldn't afford to offend them. Even recently, caution reigned in Tudela. Imminence's overseas acquisitions and aggressive collaborations worried established Tudela companies. Privately, everyone investigated Imminence's boss, even holding gatherings to strategize against the company. They hadn't invited Nathaniel, deeming him useless. Vivian, however, would accompany George to the event.
