Chapter 643: Successful Scheming
Cecilia quickly intervened, "Moana, I've told you repeatedly—you can't move the furniture! Nathaniel can't see, so if you rearrange it, he might bump into something and fall. You wouldn't listen and insisted on moving the chairs. Now, look what happened! He crashed into one!"
Moana briefly seemed dazed before recovering and retorting, "Didn't you ask me—" Cecilia cut her off.
"I pay close attention to every piece of furniture I move and return it to its place, but you wouldn't listen and kept rearranging things. I know you only heed Madam Elena's commands, but shouldn't you consider Nathaniel, too?"
Elliot immediately added, "If Daddy gets hurt, are you going to take responsibility?"
Moana's face paled as Cecilia and Elliot confronted her. Speechless, she couldn't defend herself.
Nathaniel sensed something was amiss but chose not to directly challenge the mother-son duo, instead playing along with Cecilia's scheme.
"Moana, return to the Rainsworth residence. There's no need for you to come back."
Moana wanted to explain, but moments later, bodyguards forcibly escorted her away.
Cecilia and Elliot silently high-fived. Nathaniel, hearing their excited whispers, raised a skeptical eyebrow.
Leaning against the doorframe, he asked, "Can I have something else to eat?" The carrot-filled dishes hadn't satisfied him.
"Why don't you eat my food?" Cecilia joked.
Nathaniel felt a profound sense of disappointment. After using him, they now disregarded his well-being. He turned to leave.
Cecilia stopped him. "Okay, okay. I've already had the chef prepare some of your favorite dishes."
Nathaniel paused, then returned to the table.
The woman served his food. "There you go. Eat up."
She was leaving for the living room when Nathaniel spoke. "Next time you need something, tell me directly. There's no need for such elaborate measures."
Cecilia paused, then replied sheepishly, "Thank you."
After expressing her gratitude, she returned the furniture to its original positions.
Back at the Rainsworth residence, Elena was shocked to see Moana.
"What happened?"
Moana recounted Cecilia's scheme.
Elena's eyebrows furrowed. "Must I explain? I asked you to care for her, not oppose her," she sighed. "Had I known you were so stubborn, I wouldn't have let you go." She'd had other plans; Moana had insisted on caring for Cecilia. Reflecting on Cecilia's past care, Elena had agreed.
Moana lowered her head. "I was only thinking of her health."
"Do you think I'm unaware you and Liam are doing this for your daughter?" Elena revealed. Moana was the wife of their butler, Liam. Their daughter had wronged Cecilia and Nathaniel last year, resulting in her banishment. She couldn't even return for the New Year.
"Madam Elena, Lily has always been well-behaved. Please persuade Mr. Nathaniel to let her return."
Elena, however, knew Lily had attempted to seduce her son and wanted her gone.
"You know she was wrong. If you plead for her again, you and Liam will leave the Rainsworth household, just like she did."
After Elena's ultimatum, Moana remained silent. As she went outside to call Liam, she unexpectedly encountered Cassandra.
Cassandra looked at her softly. "Moana," she began, "would you consider looking after me? This is my first child, and I need help."
