Chapter 150: Go Ahead and Jump
Watching Waverlyโs unpredictable actions, both Raylee and Shanice were dumbfounded. โMy goodness, what are you up to now, you wicked woman?โ Shanice scoffed. โKneeling like thatโyouโre definitely up to no good. Ray-Ray, we need to stay away from this plague.โ
She was just about to leave, pulling Raylee along with her, when Waverly suddenly clung tightly to Rayleeโs leg. Tears streamed down her face.
โRaylee, Iโm begging youโplease donโt take Casimir to Musmeynia! Heโs my fiancรฉ, and Iโm terrified something will happen to him! That placeโitโs ruthless! They chew you up and spit you out! I know heโs going to suffer if he goes there. Iโm really, truly worried about him!โ
Raylee frowned. โWhat do you mean, I dragged him along? He insisted on coming. Youโre his fiancรฉeโwhy arenโt you trying to convince him? Instead, you come running to me? Have you lost your mind?โ
โIf I could convince him, I wouldnโt be here begging you!โ Waverly sobbed, her words broken by hiccups. โPlease, Raylee, spare him! Youโve had him for eighteen years already. I went through so much just to come home, to marry him, to have a connection with himโplease donโt take away the man I love most!โ
Watching Waverly in tears, Shanice felt immensely satisfied. โLooks like your charm isnโt as strong as you thought. Four years have passed, and yet, you still havenโt completely won over my brother. You know, whatโs meant for you, no matter how hard you try, itโll never be yours. And you, Waverly, are the perfect example of that.โ
Waverlyโs face flushed red with embarrassment, but she still kept pleading. โRaylee, Iโve shown so much respect to your birth family on your behalfโcanโt you just let me have Casimir? I love him so much. He means more to me than my own life. I canโt bear to lose him!โ
Shanice sneered. โOh, please. You make yourself sound so noble. Are you really in love with my brother, or do you just love the status of being the lady of the Sutherland family? Among the four great families in Jexburgh, if it werenโt for my brother being engaged to you, who would even spare you a second glance? Itโs no surprise that a vain woman like you would cling to my brother so desperately.โ
Waverlyโs face turned pale, then green, then white as she stammered in panic, โItโs not like that, Shanice! I really do love Casimir!โ
She turned back to Raylee, clutching her hands tightly. โRaylee, please! Canโt you consider all the hardships Iโve endured for you over the past eighteen years and spare Casimir?โ
Rayleeโs gaze was ice-cold. โDonโt make yourself sound so grand,โ she said flatly. โThose eighteen years of wealth and statusโI already returned them to you a long time ago.โ
โExactly!โ Shanice huffed. โRay-Ray even spent four years in prison for you, suffering through hell! Eighteen years? Even if it were twenty-eight, sheโs more than repaid that debt!โ
โWaverly sobbed even harderโฆ Kaylee, I know youโve suffered because of our past conflicts. I swear Iโll make it up to you, bit by bit! I beg you, please donโt send Casimir there! As long as he doesnโt go to his doom, Iโll do anything you ask!โ
โIf you want to convince someone, go talk to him yourself,โ Raylee said, completely unmoved. โI canโt help you.โ
She had never once insisted that Casimir go to Musmeynia. Not from the beginning, not now. Whether she went or not didnโt matter. Her only mission was to bring Jeremiah back alive. Casimir was willing to help her, so of course, she welcomed his assistance. But life and deathโthat had nothing to do with her.
Waverly kept trying to plead with her, but it was like talking to a brick wall. Left with no other option, she ran out in tears.
After leaving the restroom, Raylee and Shanice noticed a crowd gathering at the end of the corridor. As they got closer, Raylee was surprised to hear Waverlyโs desperate cries, โDonโt come any closer!โ Waverly sobbed. โIf you do, I swear Iโll jump!โ
