Chapter 169: Making Things Clear
Startled, Raylee frantically explained, โMr. Victor, donโt listen to his nonsense. I have nothing to do with him, and besides, heโs already engaged.โ
Victor nodded, his face devoid of emotion. โI know that this young man is engaged, and I am also aware that he was once your fiancรฉ. Itโs only natural for old feelings to be rekindled, considering you grew up together and were previously engaged. I know everything I need to know. Youโre Jerryโs fiancรฉe; do you really think I wouldnโt look into your background?โ
Raylee eagerly explained, โMr. Victor, please donโt misunderstand. Thereโs no chance of any old flame being rekindled between him and me. During the time I was with Jeremiah, I consistently kept my distance from Casimir. You have to believe me.โ
โThat had better be the case. You two better watch yourselves; I donโt want my son to be dead and still end up being made a fool. Take care; I wonโt see you out.โ
After issuing a warning, Victor turned around and retreated to his room. Raylee clenched her fists, unsure if Victor blamed her for what happened. She cast a disgruntled glance at Casimir. Unable to be bothered with him, she left without another word.
โIโll take you back to Goodridge Manor,โ Casimir followed her all the way.
โCan you just stay away from me? You threatened Mr. Victor just now. Do you have a death wish? Itโs one thing if you get yourself killed, but donโt drag me into it!โ Raylee said, clearly annoyed.
โWeโve done nothing wrong, so why should we be afraid?โ Casimir asked, furrowing his brow.
โWeโve done nothing wrong? Do you really think Mr. Victor would believe that? Youโre engaged to someone else, so stay away from me! Donโt bring me any unnecessary trouble!โ
โI was protecting you, and yet you think Iโm causing you unnecessary trouble?โ
Having his goodwill go unappreciated weighed down Casimirโs heart. โI donโt need such protection. If you truly want to protect me, keep your distance! I risked my life to rescue you in Musmeynia, and this is how you treat me?โ
Sullenly, Casimir stood there, his enthusiasm washed away, leaving him with nothing but a sense of helplessness. With a resolute demeanor, Raylee glared at him.
โYou came to my rescue in Musmeynia, for which I am grateful. But it has nothing to do with love. My fiancรฉ just passed away, so I have no desire to get involved with any other man! Casimir, thereโs no chance for us anymore. If you still consider yourself a man, donโt do things that embarrass yourself. Go back to your life and do what you need to do. Settle down and start a family with your fiancรฉe, and stop bothering me.โ
Somewhere along the line, Casimir had clung to her so relentlessly that she just couldnโt shake him off. If she hadnโt made her stance clear, it would only lead to endless problems.
โI love you, and I want to be with you. I only want to marry you and have children with you. This has never been somethingโฆโ Casimirโs words nearly gave Raylee a heart attack. She was so upset that she turned around and stormed off. This is Lorimer Estate. Isnโt he worried that someone might hear him? She had barely saved her own life and didnโt want to lose it again just because of Casimir.
Chapter 169: Making Things Clear
Reaching her limit, Raylee warned, โIf you keep pestering me, Iโm going to spill the beans about Bradley.โ Bradley had shot Jeremiah, which was the direct cause of his death.
Even if Bradley was motivated by revenge and his reason was somewhat understandable, it was an undeniable fact that he was a bodyguard sent by Casimir. If word of this matter reached the Lorimer family, Casimir would inevitably be in a whole lot of trouble.
โBradley? What did he do?โ Casimir asked, looking utterly clueless.
โHe was your bodyguard, wasnโt he? So, do you know the real reason behind Jeremiahโs death?โ Raylee asked in a cold voice.
With a look of confusion, Casimir explained, โI have a vague idea of who he is, reputed to be an exceptional veteran. However, he was Laylaโs bodyguard, not someone I had sent.โ
โWhat โLaylaโs bodyguardโ? Then why did he claim you sent him?โ Raylee was taken aback, blown away by the startling revelation.
โIโm not quite sure either. You just mentioned the real cause of Jeremiahโs death. Wasnโt he killed by your pursuers? In that case, what exactly happened, Ray-Ray? I need you to tell me clearly.โ
Sensing that something was off with Raylee, Casimir hurriedly pressed her for answers. Kaylee was dumbfounded by the epiphany. During her time in Totresh, she had taken Bradleyโs word as the truth, believing that Casimir had indeed sent him to protect her. She never managed to clarify it, as she wasnโt in the mood to talk. On her way back, she didnโt bring up the matter with Casimir either. She had initially planned to keep it to herself. After all, revealing this matter could potentially lead to Casimirโs death. But now, Casimir had unexpectedly informed her that Bradley was sent by Layla. Doesnโt this mean that Layla had put a finger in the pie? Is she also responsible for Jeremiahโs death? Upon further reflection, Kaylee wondered if Layla was aware of Jeremiahโs deep-seated hatred toward Jeremiah.
