Chapter 224: The Takeouts
The following afternoon, she was sharing a peaceful lunch with her grandmother. Suddenly, a continuous stream of delivery riders began arriving, all delivering takeout to Goodridge Manor. There were at least twenty to thirty delivery bags of various sizes. When she opened them, she was surprised to find chili con carne in all of them. Each delivery was from a different shop, offering a variety of flavors.
โWho ordered this chili con carne for me? And so much of it, too. How am I supposed to finish all of these?โ Raylee was taken aback.
Upon reflection, she realized that such a foolish act could probably only be carried out by a certain someone. She instantly blushed with annoyance.
Vera stared at the massive pile of takeout with great curiosity. โRayโRay, why did you order so much chili con carne? I remember you used to love eating this. Why didnโt you tell me you wanted it today? I could have asked Hazel to make it for you.โ
Shaking her head, Raylee said, โI didnโt order them.โ
Vera was taken aback by the answer. โThen who did? Thereโs so much food; are you sure itโs not a prank?โ
โIf Iโm not mistaken, itโs probably Samuel.โ
โWhat? He still remembers your love for chili con carne?โ A glimmer of pride appeared in Veraโs eyes.
โHe is probably trying to get on your good side, right? I didnโt see that coming. Initially, all I hoped for was for him not to bully you. Now that heโs trying to win you over, thatโs progress. Thereโs still hope for him yet.โ
Raylee denied it, saying, โHe doesnโt remember what I liked to eat. Someone else must have told him. In this world, only you remember what I like.โ
As she spoke, an image of Percival unconsciously surfaced in her mind.
โOh? Who is it? Do tell me. Anyone who cares for my precious granddaughter deserves my deepest gratitude.โ
โItโs a very important friend, Grandma. I need to drop by the Goodridge first, but Iโll be back later to eat with you.โ
Raylee asked Hazel to bring over an exceptionally large trash bag. After packing all the takeout into it, she carried it over to the Goodridge residence. As soon as the housekeeper opened the door, she wasted no time in heading straight for Samuelโs room. She stormed in with such ferocity that she looked like she was going to rob the place. The housekeeper followed her closely, frantically inquiring, โMs. Raylee, whatโs the matter? What are you doing in Mr. Goodridgeโs room? Heโs not at home.โ
โThis has nothing to do with you.โ
The reticent Raylee arrived at Samuelโs room. Without hesitation, she kicked the door open. Subsequently, she dumped all the takeout from the garbage bag onto Samuelโs bed.
โAhโฆ Ms. Kaylee, what are you doing?โ the housekeeper exclaimed in surprise.
After tossing the garbage bag onto the bed along with the food, Raylee dusted her hands off each other in disgust before speaking. โTell him that I donโt like chili con carne. Oh, no, I mean I donโt like the chili con carne ordered by him!โ
