Chapter 260: The Same Question
โAs long as you live well, weโll continue to be happy,โ the masked man said, tightening his grip on her hand. โI will do everything in my power to heal you, I promise!โ
Raylee didnโt understand the true meaning behind his words. Hadnโt she already recovered? Her left ear, originally deaf, had regained its hearing. The leg that had been injured was also nearly healed. As for the scars that covered her body, they were nearly nonexistent, thanks to the scar removal cream. Under the meticulous care of the medical team, the various injuries on her body had largely healed. She couldnโt comprehend why the masked man was still concerned about her condition. After all, she felt that she was currently in the pink of health. With that, she didnโt really get what he was saying.
Raylee never imagined that she too would experience a day where she was head over heels in love. Much like a young girl experiencing her first love, she asked, โMr. Ma. Mask, will you ever grow tired of me? Would you abandon me if Dodoโs mom came back? I really feel insecure!โ
โNo, because you are Dodoโs motherโฆโ the masked man replied, resting his chin atop her head as he spoke. โIโm merely Dodoโs stepmother. How wonderful it would be if he were my own. This way, you and I will be connected for life, and you wonโt be able to shake me off.โ
Raylee once again indulged in her innocent fantasies.
โHave you truly forgotten?โ
โHuh? Forgotten what?โ
โNothing. I promise you that you really are Dodoโs mom.โ
The night seemed to stretch on endlessly. Raylee couldnโt recall how many times she had asked the same question. Similarly, she couldnโt remember the countless promises the masked man had made. It was often said that promises made by men in bed couldnโt be trusted, but Raylee believed in them. Ultimately, she fell into a deep sleep, even experiencing a nightmare.
In her dream, she found herself in the District Nine Prison, bound to a sickbed by a sinister-looking professor. She cried out, but no one responded to her. The Epean professor spoke in broken Corvainan. โSubject number eighty-eight, do you wish to become a mother? I can fulfill your desire to be one!โ She shook her head desperatelyโฆ
โAh!โ Raylee jolted awake amidst a shriek, only to realize that she was the only one left in the room. She wiped the profuse sweat off her brow, recalling that it had been a long time since she last had a nightmare. Surprisingly, she had dreamt of herself being taken away to have an IVF baby. The dream felt so realโฆ
Suddenly, a surge of pain in her lower abdomen diverted Rayleeโs attention. Her eyes suddenly widened, and she rushed to the bathroom to check.
โItโs my period!โ
Ever since she was imprisoned, the number of times her period came could be counted on both hands. Eventually, they simply stopped coming. She had thought that she was barren, never having the chance to become a mother again.
โI canโt believe itโฆโ Rayleeโs eyes welled up with emotion. Does this mean that I can become a mother now? Could I possibly start a family with Mr. Mask? Her heart was fluttering with intense excitement. After the initial surprise, her calm quickly returned. Recalling her initiative from the previous night, she let out a deep sigh.
โItโs not a good idea for a woman to be too forward. I guess itโs better to let nature take its course. Also, itโs wise to take a manโs promises with a grain of salt. If I allow myself to fall too deeply in love, I would be nursing a broken heart in the end. The smartest course of action is to have a firm grasp on whatโs tangible.โ
Raylee settled in front of her computer, beginning to organize her assets. The most tangible thing was money. Over the past five months, the masked man had provided her with a nine-digit allowance, along with twenty houses and ten commercial properties. The same naturally occurred when it came to cars. Just considering the global limited edition ones, there were five of them. Moreover, the current property they were living in, No. 8 Royal Court, was also registered under her name. One should know that this property was an absolute treasure. How many billions is it worth again? She couldnโt even begin to count. In a city like Jexburgh, where every inch of land was worth its weight in gold.
โI canโt believe I have so many assets. Little did I realize that Iโd become a wealthy woman! All these assets surpass the values of the shares given by the Goodridge family.โ
Raylee was brimming with joy. She believed that money gave a woman confidence, a conclusion that had a lot of truth in it. Once again, she couldnโt help but speculate as to who exactly was this masked man and what industry he was involved in. Even the slightest favor he bestowed upon her was enough to make her a wealthy woman. Just how wealthy is he?
Holding back her excitement, Raylee sought out some courses on investment and financial management to study. The major she enrolled in at Jexburgh University was also related to these subjects. She had experienced firsthand that when a personโs intelligence couldnโt match their vast wealth, that wealth would inevitably find its way back to the market.
And so, she decided to go back to school. Firstly, she wanted to remedy the regret of never having attended university. Secondly, she was determined to make herself more capable. Education would not only improve oneโs finances, but it also could enrich oneโs physical aura and mental sharpness. It was the easiest way to make oneself more capable.
