Chapter 268: Unanswered Questions
Raylee threaded her fingers through her hair, her mind swirling with countless questions. Who exactly is the masked man? Does he have any connection with Jeremiah at all?
Over the past few months, she had been racking her brain, trying to uncover information about the masked man. Each time, she returned empty-handed. Despite living under the same roof, they were like familiar strangers.
After trying on the ring, Raylee was quite pleased. โWrap it up; Iโll collect it right away. By the way, whatโs Mr. Foucaultโs full name?โ she asked.
โIโm not sure; I only know him as Mr. Foucault. Ms. Somers, when Mr. Foucault called, he also instructed us to recommend some other pieces of jewelry to you,โ said the store manager respectfully. โOur store just happened to have acquired a new gem recently. Itโs a diamond necklace called the Arctic Blue Star, valued at one and a half billion. Ms. Somers, would you like to try it on?โ
โThereโs no need for me to try it; just wrap it up for me!โ Raylee said decisively. After all, the money was going into her own pocket, so there was no need to help the masked man save it. Mr. Foucault, with his vast family fortune, couldnโt care less about a mere one and a half billion! In this regard, Raylee held nothing back. โAll right; thank you, Ms. Somers,โ the store manager said, all smiles, having successfully sold the most valuable flagship piece in the store.
While waiting for her order to be packed in the VIP room, Raylee made a video call to the masked man. The call connected swiftly, and the silver mask of the masked man soon appeared on the screen. Raylee was in a state of emotional turmoil. With a torrent of questions swirling in her mind, she was doing her utmost to keep her emotions in check.
โGood morning, Mr. Foucault,โ Raylee greeted, emphasizing his name quite deliberately.
The masked man was taken aback, then suddenly burst into laughter. โThat was just a random name I provided the jewelry store,โ he said.
โOh? So, did you just randomly decide to go to East Aploth as well?โ Raylee asked sarcastically.
โSo, youโve got the ring? Are you satisfied with it?โ
โUnsatisfied, really. You picked a random family name, then had the audacity to engrave it on a ring. Whatโs this about wanting to be my other half for the rest of my life? Are you messing with me?โ Suddenly, Rayleeโs tone turned serious. โBe honest; did you really go to East Aploth?โ
The masked man didnโt deny it, which made Raylee extremely worried. โWhat were you doing over there? Didnโt I tell you not to venture into dangerous territories? Have you forgotten?โ
โI had some business matters to attend to. Donโt worry; I wonโt let anything happen to myself.โ
Facing the soothing words of the masked man, Raylee felt a profound sense of helplessness. She knew she couldnโt control this man, nor did she have the right to. After a moment of silence, she asked, โAll right; I wonโt interfere with your business, but you need to be honest with me on this. Do you know Jeremiah Lorimer?โ
The masked man didnโt hesitate before denying, โI donโt know him, and Iโm not very familiar with the Lorimer family either.โ
Raylee growled, โReally? Look me in the eyes and tell me youโre not lying to me! If you claim to have no connection with him, then how did you come by your Tear of Star pink diamond? Why, of all places, did you choose to go to East Aploth? Thatโs Jeremiahโs territory!โ
The masked man replied calmly, โAre you referring to the pink diamond on the engagement ring? I bought it from a mysterious buyer because I thought it was beautiful, so I used it to craft our wedding rings. As for East Aploth, I have some ventures here as well. The region is vast, and many of our compatriots are doing business here. That doesnโt really prove anything, does it? Youโre being a bit too sensitive, and you seem really anxious about Jeremiah. Whatโs your relationship with that man?โ
By the end of his sentences, the tone of the masked man had turned rather sour.
โHe was my ex-fiancรฉ. How could you not know that? I refuse to believe you havenโt looked into my past!โ Raylee said with a stern expression.
โRay-Ray, there are some things that we must let go of. Only by forgetting the past can we truly startโฆโ The masked man was exceptionally skilled at changing the subject.
Suddenly, a very gentle voice of a woman echoed from his side, โLeo, could you come over here, please?โ
โAll right,โ the masked man responded. Then, without even saying goodbye to Raylee, he hurriedly ended the video call.
Raylee slumped onto the couch, drained of energy. Her mind was a whirlwind of uncontrollable thoughts and wild imaginations. So, he had a woman on the side? Is his name Leo? The woman called out to him affectionately! Who is she to him?
Meanwhile, in the underground basement of a warehouse somewhere in East Aploth, an Epean scholar was bound and kneeling on the damp and gloomy floor. The woman who had just called out for the masked man was a doctor, named Angela. She pulled out a lab report and said, โLeo, these are Ms. Somersโ recent health statistics, and theyโre not looking promising.โ
The masked man took a glance and was instantly filled with rage. With a harsh kick aimed at the chest of the Epean doctor, he demanded furiously, โSpill it! Where did you hide the experimental data?โ
