Chapter 272: Making a Fool of Herself
Casimir wanted more time with Raylee, so he persuaded her, saying, “Raylee, Waverly genuinely wants to reconcile with you. This could be a good opportunity. After we finish selecting the jewelry, let’s grab lunch together. If there are any misunderstandings, we can clear them up face-to-face. It’ll save us from the mess of unresolved issues.”
He had assumed Raylee would decline, but she agreed without hesitation. “Sure!”
Waverly was nearly overwhelmed with excitement. She immediately pulled Raylee over to the jewelry counter.
After making her selection, she playfully told Casimir, “Casimir, I’ve set my heart on the Twin Blossoms diamond ring series. It’s quite the popular item here. When purchasing, the couple has to present their ID cards, and they can only order one pair in their lifetime. It symbolizes our everlasting bond, two souls intertwined for a lifetime.”
Slightly perplexed, Casimir wondered to himself, “Everlasting bond? Two souls intertwined for a lifetime? Doesn’t that mean I’d be irrevocably bound to Waverly?” However, he quickly found relief. It’s just a diamond ring, so it’s no big deal. If things work out with Raylee in the future, we can always order from a different jewelry store.
He studied Raylee’s expression for a moment and noticed her lack of emotion. In a fit of pique, he swiftly made a decision, declaring authoritatively, “We’ll buy it!”
“Really? Casimir, I’m so happy!” Waverly was so thrilled she was on the verge of tears. She hadn’t expected Casimir to agree so readily. She immediately asked the salesperson to bring out the pair of diamond rings she had set her eyes on.
After she slipped it onto her ring finger, she didn’t even have time to admire it herself before she thrust her hand in front of Raylee, flaunting it by saying, “Raylee, isn’t this ring just beautiful? You know, you can only register for one pair in a lifetime with your ID card!”
With a blank expression, Raylee nodded. “Yes, it’s beautiful. It’s absolutely stunning.” However, she didn’t even glance at the diamond ring.
Thinking she was avoiding her gaze, Waverly deliberately provoked her by asking, “Raylee, from this point on, I’ll be the only one for Casimir. You’ll give me your blessings, won’t you?”
After speaking, she affectionately took Casimir’s hand and slipped the ring onto his finger, her face radiating with joy as she continued, “Casimir, we really do look good together, don’t we? Do you like it?”
“I like it,” Casimir said. Despite claiming he liked it, his gaze was fixated on Raylee.
Watching the sickeningly sweet display, Raylee felt like she was about to throw up last night’s dinner. “Hurry up and buy it, then. Don’t we still need to pick a birthday gift for your future mother-in-law?” she urged them.
“All right; let’s buy it!” Waverly then told the salesperson, “Please wrap it up.”
The salesperson complimented her, saying, “You really have a discerning eye, Ms. Goodridge. This pair of diamond rings is the most renowned from our Twin Blossoms collection. The diamonds alone weigh a staggering one hundred and twenty carats. The price is eighty-eight million, eight hundred and eighty thousand. Please bring your ID cards over here for registration, and pay the bill with your card.”
“What? Over eighty million? Do you think I’m a fool or something?” Waverly was taken aback. She couldn’t have anticipated that a pair of diamond rings would be so expensive. In the past, she used to visit the jewelry store with her mother. They had bought the most expensive pieces, which were just a few million, never surpassing ten million. A single pair of rings now costs over eighty million? Even if Casimir could afford it, I simply can’t accept this!
Margaret also felt that the price was steep. After all, they were just engagement rings, so there was no need for them to be so…
However, the way Waverly acted as if she couldn’t afford it due to its exorbitant price, even claiming she was being treated like a fool, made Margaret feel utterly embarrassed.
“I feel that this pair of diamond rings is rather ordinary. They’re not quite suitable for you. Perhaps you should choose another pair,” Margaret said nonchalantly.
Waverly argued, “I’ve done my research online, Mom. The most expensive piece from the Twin Blossom series is only around thirty million. She’s clearly jacking up the price now!”
The salesperson quickly denied, “Please don’t accuse me of such a thing, Ms. Goodridge. The prices are set by the company. I don’t have the authority to raise them arbitrarily.”
Even Margaret was taken aback after seeing her display such a naive and inexperienced demeanor. She was raised in the countryside; she didn’t possess the sophistication typically associated with a daughter of a prestigious family.
Hearing the soft laughter echoing around her, Margaret felt as if she was losing all her dignity.
“Why are you being so stubborn? Can’t you just choose something else? Haven’t your parents taught you to be cautious and mindful when speaking in public?” Margaret said irritably.
Raylee never expected that Waverly would act so foolishly at such a moment. It was hardly surprising, though. A ring worth over eighty million had simply surpassed her comprehension.
Upon hearing the surrounding mockery, and catching Margaret’s disdainful gaze, Waverly suddenly felt mortified.
In her most helpless moment, Casimir stepped forward, saying, “Since Waverly likes it, let’s buy it!”
