Chapter 330: Concocting a New Scheme
Upon hearing the two taking turns praising Raylee, Waverly couldn't hold back her anger. โIt was one thing for her to be the topic of conversation on campus, but even at home, you all are favoring her too! If sheโs so great, why donโt you just adopt her as your daughter? Wouldnโt it be easier to just kick me out?โ
After venting, she stormed off upstairs, leaving both Harriet and Samuel stunned. What was going on? Why was she so angry?
Harriet wanted to chase after her, but Samuel stopped her. โMom, if she wants to throw a tantrum, then just let her! I was getting a bit fed up with her myself. I initially thought she was a sensible and well-behaved country girl, but look what happened. She hasnโt even been back with our family long, and she has already brought us so much trouble. Sheโs still as moody as ever, inexplicably lashing out at us for no apparent reason.โ
Harriet sighed. โYouโre right, I shouldnโt spoil her too much. Ray-Ray used to have quite the temper in the past, but it was more of a fiery personality than anything else. Most of the time, she was quite optimistic, truly the ray of sunshine in our family. Most importantly, she never brought us any major troubles, nor did she ever associate herself with the wrong crowd.โ
As the two of them spoke, they found themselves inexplicably reminiscing about the days when Raylee lived in the Goodridge residence.
Having received the money, Mindy resumed her role as Waverlyโs study companion. Seeing that Waverly was in a bad mood, she took the initiative and said, โRaylee sure is a persistent one! First, she took away your status as the campus belle, then she used her exam scores to overshadow you. If things keep going like this, she might just return home and steal your identity as the daughter of the Goodridge family! After all, you arenโt actuallyโโ
Waverly coldly interrupted her, โShut up! Didnโt I tell you to never bring up this matter, no matter the circumstances?โ
Mindy playfully stuck out her tongue. โIโm sorry; I wonโt bring it up again.โ
โDid you mention this to Tiffany while you were in the detention center?โ Waverly asked.
โNo, I didnโt! All I mentioned was your past in the red-light districtโโ
Waverly cut her off with a sharp glance.
Mindy raised her hands in surrender. โIโm sorry. From now on, Iโll avoid using such sensitive words at all times.โ
She was actually intentionally testing Waverlyโs reaction. Upon seeing her intense reaction, she couldnโt help but feel exhilarated. As long as I hold tightly onto my leverage over her, I could continue to manipulate her! With a benefactor like this on my side, my financial security for life is all set!
With a stiff expression, Waverly warned, โYouโve taken my money, so you better watch your mouth. Everyone has their limits, and I have mine too. If you cross my line, donโt blame me for disregarding our friendship!โ
How could she possibly disregard our friendship? Right now, Waverly is the one who needs my help!
With that in mind, Mindy nonchalantly nodded and said, โUnderstood. From now on, no matter the time or place, I wonโt bring up anything about you. What about Raylee, though? Are you just going to let her walk all over you? I have an idea, but Iโm not sure what youโll think about it.โ
โWhat is it?โ
Mindy leaned in, whispering softly into her ear.
โI already took four million from you last time, so this one is free of charge. Iโm not some greedy person; I understand the principle of owing someone for their help,โ Mindy said, her face showing a straightforward expression.
Waverly shook her head, saying, โForget it; I donโt trust you. Youโre completely unreliable when it comes to this stuff. You were supposed to set Raylee up at the charity sale, but you messed with Tiffany instead and created such a huge blunder!โ
Mindy, however, wore an expression of disdain. The scheme she concocted last time was too grand, and she hadnโt considered all the aspects thoroughly, which led to such a massive disaster. However, things were different now. It was merely a matter of spilling some sulfuric acid, which was a trivial task that she couldnโt possibly fail at.
A day later, the campus hosted an international exchange party in the evening. Mindy had figured everything out. Raylee had come to Jexburgh University as an international student, so she would be attending the evening party.
As night fell, she crouched down on a narrow path, quietly waiting for Raylee to come out. Just after nine in the evening, the networking event came to a close, and Raylee departed from the meeting venue.
A bespectacled classmate, who appeared rather refined, told her, โThereโs an injured stray Ragdoll cat in the bushes beneath the science building. Iโve made a temporary nest for it out of a cardboard box. Would you like to come with me to check on it?โ
