Chapter 349: There Is One Possibility
โWhy not? Is there a time difference between your time zone and mine?โ Raylee retorted.
โThere are certain things you donโt know yet, things which I plan to gradually reveal to you in the future.โ
โHow much longer are you going to wait? Tell me now! Iโm afraid that I might suddenly die before you even have the chance to tell me. Then, it wouldnโt be illness that killed me, but regret,โ Raylee pleaded, shaking his arm.
The masked manโs voice suddenly grew solemn. โLet me tell you something of even greater importance.โ
Rayleeโs voice hitched in her throat as she anxiously asked, โCould it be that I have an even more serious hidden ailment?โ
โSomething like that.โ The masked man nodded, gently lifting her clothes to reveal the emblem of the terrorist organization on her lower back. โTake a look for yourself; has the color darkened again?โ
Raylee turned her head and almost scared herself to death. โGoodness! How did this tattoo get so dark? Itโs so red now; it wouldnโt turn into some sort of malignant tumor, would it?โ
The masked man held her hand, soothingly saying, โItโs not that extreme, but the doctor did conduct a sample test. The pigments here contain toxins. If left unchecked, these toxins will gradually infiltrate your bloodstream, damaging your immune system. But donโt worry; the medical team I lead has developed a drug that can neutralize the toxin. At the very least, within a year, we could effectively control the spread of the toxin.โ
Raylee sadly cast her eyes downward. My life is so pitiful! First, itโs the lethal complications left behind from the human experimentation. Then, inexplicably, I was etched with a crude tattoo that shockingly contained toxins! Itโs as if fate finds my misery insufficient and is ceaselessly brewing trouble for me. How much more can I endure?
โDo you remember the man who once saved your life?โ the masked man asked.
The tone of Rayleeโs voice became serious as she replied, โHow could I forget? I was the one who told you about it. Itโs highly likely that the apprentice of that Epean doctor was the one who gave me the tattoo. Could it be that I need to find him to get this tattoo removed?โ
The masked man nodded. โItโs not just that; finding him might lead us to the experimental data, which could save your life.โ
โBut the world is so vast, where could I possibly find him? Iโve never even seen his true face. Iโve only heard his voice and have a rough idea of his build and height.โ
โNo worries; Iโll leave no stone unturned until I find him! Because, heโs still the one who killed my mother, known by the codename โMaximus!โโ As he said this, the masked man clenched his fist forcefully.
Raylee was taken aback by his words. โWhat? Maximus is actually the apprentice of the Epean doctor?โ
The masked man patiently explained to her, โThatโs right. This โWCโ on your back is actually a symbol representing an international terrorist organization. The members of this terrorist organization are nothing short of desperate villains, known for their extreme cruelty. They often roam from country to country, instigating horrific acts of terror. Once you join them, you would be marked with this symbol. The organization would periodically administer a unique drug to prevent the symbol from darkening. If left untreated, the individual would succumb to the toxin and perish. This was also a method used by the organizationโs higher-ups to control their subordinates, preventing them from rebelling.โ
A chill ran down Kayleeโs spine as she listened. โAre you implying that Iโm now a terrorist?โ
Rather than becoming one of those vile villains, she would have preferred to die from complications of the experiment.
โYou were merely marked with this symbol, so youโre not yet a formal member of the organization. Howeverโฆโ The masked manโs voice took on a darker tone. โThere is a possibility that cannot be ruled outโฆ that Epean professorโs apprentice might find you and bring you back to them, grooming you to become a member of their organization.โ
Upon hearing these words, it was as if a switch had been flicked deep within Rayleeโs memory. Her complexion was deathly pale as she felt lost and confused. โNo wonder he said those thingsโฆโ
โWhat did he say to you?โ the masked man asked anxiously.
Raylee recalled what he said and replied, โWhen I nearly drowned in the ocean, he saved me. After that, he performed several surgeries on me, all without anesthesia. Back then, I was almost fainting from pain. He whispered in my ear, promising that he would get me out of prison soon and take me to a home that belonged to both of us.โ Her face held a hint of embarrassment as she added, โAnd he also called me his wife.โ
The masked man snorted heavily. โHe wishes! Calling a woman his wife when sheโs at her weakest! What a jerk!โ
