Chapter 368: Meeting Maximus

โ€œWhat? Thereโ€™s news on Maximusโ€™s whereabouts? Alright, Iโ€™m heading to East Aploth immediately!โ€

The masked man was quite agitated after hearing what Angela said over the phone. While speaking, he quickly donned his coat, ready to step out. He was preparing to travel abroad on his private jet.

Raylee asked nervously, โ€œThereโ€™s news about Maximus? Why so sudden?โ€

โ€œThe Epean professor has spoken, sharing some experimental data and clues about Maximus. I must go there and deal with it immediately,โ€ the masked man said, embracing Raylee.

โ€œRayโ€”Ray, wait for me. I will surely save you! During this period, Jexburgh is safe due to the recent terror attack. All sorts of security measures are being implemented at their strictest. Youโ€™re free to move around, even attend school, but make sure you have Plumpy by your side at all times.โ€

Raylee nodded. โ€œYou should go and come back quickly. Iโ€™ll be waiting for you at home.โ€

After parting ways with the masked man, Raylee bought some fruit and made a trip to the hospital, intending to visit Zachary. In the end, the nurse informed her that he had already been discharged.

โ€œHeโ€™s been discharged?โ€ Raylee was somewhat taken aback, recalling that his injuries had been severe. Though it wasnโ€™t a gunshot wound, a slash on the thigh and another on the palm were certainly no small matter. โ€œI canโ€™t believe Mr. Macaluso. Does he really think those are just scratches?โ€ Raylee was quite worried. After all, Zachary was injured saving her. She simply couldnโ€™t turn a blind eye to him. She promptly called her homeroom teacher, inquiring about Zacharyโ€™s contact information and dormitory address. Visiting him in person would certainly show more sincerity, wouldnโ€™t it?

Meanwhile, in a self-built house on the outskirts of the city, a group of around ten men and women, each unique in their own way, had gathered. Some of them were dressed up as white-collar workers, others as delivery personnel or handymenโ€ฆ They were the main participants in the recent terror attack. The initial act of terror involved five operatives. Two of them died, while the remaining three were captured alive. To prevent the whole operation from being exposed, they adhered to Maximusโ€™s plan and changed their meeting location at the last minute.

A man, neatly dressed in a suit and tie, called out, โ€œMr. Maximus is here. Everyone, please quiet downโ€ฆโ€

The noisy scene immediately fell silent. Though it was said that Maximus was the leader of this terror attack, rumor had it that he, a high-ranking member of WC, always pulled the strings from behind the scenes. It was rare for him to appear openly and meet with rank-and-file terrorists. Several new members of the group began to show signs of curiosity.

Chapter 368: Meeting Maximus

The reason was that he was thoroughly covered up, his face adorned with a hyper-realistic mask. Even his true height was a mystery, as the elevator shoes he wore added quite a few inches.

The man in the suit who had just spoken was also in charge of the recent terrorist attack, serving in a minor administrative role. Trembling with fear, he asked, โ€œWelcome, Mr. Maximus. What brings you here?โ€

Maximus remained silent, his deep-set eyes shifting subtly beneath the hyper-realistic mask. In the end, his gaze settled on Mindy, who was lying wounded and barely alive in the farthest corner. Suddenly, he pointed at Mindy and gradually asked, โ€œWho sent this woman out?โ€

His voice, manipulated through a special microphone, transformed into the sound of an elderly man. His true voice remained hidden from others. The voice that echoed was aged and devoid of any intimidation.

The man in the suit didnโ€™t seem to mind, responding with a smile, โ€œIt was I who sent her out. To be precise, she requested to participate in the mission. Seeing her in such a dire state, I knew she didnโ€™t have long to live, so I gave her a drug to tap into her hidden potential. Rather than letting her die in captivity, it would be better to send her out as a human time bomb. It would be a waste not to use her!โ€

โ€œBring her here!โ€ Maximus commanded.

The man in the suit immediately stepped forward, casting a disdainful glance at the severely injured Mindy, and grabbed her arm. He dragged her forward as if she were nothing more than a bag of trash. Shaking his head, he said, โ€œMr. Maximus, this womanโ€™s injuries are far too severe. Treating her would be a sheer waste of medical resources. Even if she were cured, sheโ€™d still be a retard. What does it matter that she got caught? Why did you have to go through all the trouble to bring her back?โ€
