Chapter 377: Joseph Quinn
Raylee didn't deny it. โI was indeed engaged to Jeremiah. But after his death, our engagement was called off.โ
โDamn. I didnโt expect you and himโฆโ Halston said irritably. โNo wonder Mr. Foucault took a liking to you; so this was the reason all along. I canโt believe how despicable he is!โ
Even though he is supposedly dead, he refuses to leave his fiancรฉe behind. Is this a sign of true love? Itโs more like heโs hogging her, to me.
โWhat does my affair with Jeremiah have to do with Mr. Foucault?โ Raylee questioned. โDo you know some kind of secret? Tell me quickly.โ
โI donโt know, I donโt know anything,โ Halston shook his head in denial.
Raylee knew he wouldnโt reveal it easily. Thatโs okay. I have all the time in the world to gradually get it out of him.
โWhat kind of person is your boyfriend? First, he stole my original warm-up routine, then he took my granddaughter-in-law,โ Alfred said fiercely.
โGet him over here right away,โ he demanded. โI want to take a closer look at this guy to see what makes him so special that he dares to be so audacious!โ
After he finished speaking, he clutched his chest, coughing heavily twice.
Hugh shook his head, saying, โAlfred, donโt let your imagination run wild. Youโre too old for any kind of shock. I understand your longing for your grandson, but you must face the harsh realityโheโs gone. Sigh, letโs hurry back to your room. Itโs time to take your medicine.โ
โNo, I must meet her boyfriend!โ Alfred stubbornly demanded.
Raylee had no choice but to reassure him, โAlright, alright. Once heโs back from his business trip, Iโll ask him to come over and meet you.โ
โThatโs more like it.โ Alfred nodded, returning to the house with Hugh.
After taking a few steps, he circled back: โYoung lady, I didnโt think much of it when I saw your photo before. Seeing you in person today, you really do resemble an old friend of mine with the surname Quinnโฆโ
Raylee knew she wasnโt a part of the Goodridge family, and neither was she the housekeeperโs biological daughter. Before her grandmother passed away, she was left with nothing but a letter and a self-destructing box, meant to guide her in uncovering her origins.
Upon hearing Alfredโs words, she couldnโt help but feel curious.
โAn old friend with the surname Quinn? Do we look alike?โ
โMay I ask, Old Mr. Lorimer, where is this old friend of yours now?โ
Shaking his head, Alfred said in frustration, โWe lost contact. That jerk vanished without a trace ages ago. He completely ruined the life of my goddaughter, Anne!โ
Hugh joined the conversation. โAlfred, are you talking about Joseph Quinn? That guy abandoned his wife and daughter to go abroad years ago and has never been heard from since. Itโs been over twenty years, hasnโt it? No one knows if he died over there or if he chose not to come back. Letโs not talk about that person anymore. It just makes my blood boil!โ
With that, Hugh then dragged Alfred away.
Rushing to catch up, Raylee asked, โOld Mr. Lorimer, Old Mr. Mulligan, could you tell me more about this Joseph Quinn? And what about Anne, where is she living with her daughter now?โ

Hugh anxiously said, โEnough, enough, someone quickly help Alfred back!โ
The two security guards quickly assisted the two elders back inside.

Raylee wanted to chase after them, but Halston stopped her. โRay-Ray, donโt bother asking. You wonโt get anything out of it.โ
โWhatโs wrong? Are you aware of what happened!โ
โHow could I not? They talked about it countless times already,โ Halston rolled his eyes in reply.
โIf you really want to know, come to my place. Iโll tell you everything in detail.โ
โYour place! I thought you moved out?โ Raylee looked at him, puzzled.
Halston leant forward, saying, โNo, Iโve been living here since I was a kid. Even though Iโve moved out, I still have a room here. I come back now and then to keep Grandpa company. Let me show you my room. The dog Grandpa can do lots of amazing tricks!โ
โIโm not interested in your dog, nor in going to your room!โ Raylee declared with a huff, perched on a nearby stool.
โIf you donโt spill the beans today, Iโll make sure to get it out of you, even if I have to break your legs. As for appearance, you have to describe it even if you donโt want to!โ
