Chapter 84: Stirring Up Trouble
Waverly panicked, looking up at Raylee. "Raylee, what's wrong with Shanice? Did she hit her head or something!"
Shanice unleashed a torrent of anger. "You're the one who hit your damn head! Waverly, you're heartless! Not only did you refuse to save me when I was hanging off that cliff, but when I grabbed onto you, you shoved me away. Were you that afraid I'd drag you down with me?"
Waverly stammered, her voice shaky with guilt and panic. "I was terrified! And I'm scared of heights. I didn't mean to push you—"
"Yeah, right. You weren't careless; you did it on purpose. Get lost, fake friend!" Shanice's gaze was filled with disgust and mockery. But turning to Raylee, her demeanor changed completely. Her voice softened. "After coming so close to death, I finally see who's real and who's a snake. Raylee is my savior. And you, Waverly? From now on, you're my enemy."
Waverly's eyes instantly reddened with frustration; tears welled up.
"Wow, crying on command? What a waste of talent! You should have been an actress! Save the crocodile tears, it's disgusting!" Shanice angrily cursed.
Waverly burst into tears.
At that moment, Samuel, Casimir, and several rescue workers arrived, having heard the commotion. The rescue team immediately assessed Shanice's injuries. Meanwhile, Samuel and Casimir attended to Waverly, who was sobbing uncontrollably.
Casimir frowned. "Waverly, why are you crying? They're both fine. Shouldn't you be happy?"
Samuel, ever the overprotective brother, lashed out. "Raylee, are you bullying Wavy again? Haven't you had enough? You literally fell off a cliff, and you still won't stop! What, are you only going to stop when you're dead?"
Shanice was speechless, but unsurprised; this was typical Samuel.
Shanice gritted her teeth, pushing through the pain. "Samuel, are you out of your mind? Raylee didn't bully her. She's just putting on a guilty act and crying crocodile tears!"
Casimir and Samuel were stunned. This was the first time they'd seen Shanice defend Raylee.
"Did you hit your head or something, Shanice?" Samuel echoed Waverly's confusion.
Shanice wanted to retort, but the searing pain from her broken leg silenced her as the rescue team treated her. Waverly covered her mouth, sobbing uncontrollably, as if she had suffered the greatest injustice.
Samuel grabbed Raylee's arm. "Tell me, why are you bullying Wavy?" His grip was tight, causing Raylee pain. She frowned. "Get your hands—"
Casimir tried to intercede. "Samuel, get the facts straight before you jump to conclusions. Don't misunderstand Ray—"
"How could I be mistaken? She's always bullying Waverly!" Samuel glared at Casimir, gritting his teeth. He continued, "And what's with you calling her Ray-Ray? Since when were you two so close? Listen up. Wavy is your fiancée. Stay away from other women!"
Casimir snapped back, "I'm just stating the facts. Why are you so worked up?"
Waverly hurried to explain. "Samuel, Raylee didn't bully me. They said I stood by and did nothing to help."
Samuel's face was ice-cold. "What do you mean she left you to die? If Waverly hadn't found you and called us, you'd both be dead by now. And this is how you repay your savior? You're like ungrateful dogs biting the hand that feeds you!"
Raylee retorted, her voice steady. "If she hadn't found us, the rescue team would have gotten here soon anyway. How does that make it all her doing? As for why Shanice suddenly changed her attitude toward her, why don't you ask her yourself?"
Waverly burst into even louder sobs, throwing herself into Samuel's arms. "Samuel, I didn't mean to leave Shanice behind. I was just so scared at the time."
Shanice, having finally caught her breath, recounted the events at the cliff's edge. Furious, she pointed at Waverly. "You're unbelievable! I thought you were my best friend, but you left me for dead, and even pushed me! I must have been blind to call you my best friend for four years!"
Casimir frowned doubtfully. "You were pretty emotional at the time. Are you sure you didn't see it wrong?"
Shanice gritted her teeth. "You may not have seen it, but Raylee did! She saw it with her own eyes. Why else would she have jumped in after me?"
Samuel immediately turned on Raylee. "So it was you stirring up trouble!"
