Chapter 190: The Operation Was Successful
Divine was ecstatic. Her friend had become a renowned, talented surgeon. It was a wonderful experience for her! She rubbed Olive's face, exclaiming happily, "My pride! Make me proud, okay?"
Olive smiled. The Ivory Council had become a warm and welcoming family. Everyone treated her with respect and kindness. She nodded firmly. "Thank you, Divine. I will definitely do my best."
Marvin watched Olive from the corner, basking in the admiration. She had only been at the Ivory Council for a few months, yet had already captivated everyone.
Dean Sebastian clapped to get Olive's attention. "Alright, everyone, it's time for the surgery. Marvin, Olive, it's time to enter the 'battlefield.' Madam Robert awaits!"
"Okay, sir." Olive clutched her notepad, waved goodbye, and walked towards the operating room with Marvin.
At the entrance, Crown Prince Derrick leaned against the wall, waiting. Seeing Olive, he greeted her, "Hello, good morning."
Olive ignored him and proceeded into the operating room. Derrick, unaccustomed to being ignored, blocked her path. "Hello, ugly girl, I was talking to you."
"Oh, it was you? I'm sorry, I thought someone was yelling incessantly," Olive replied, entering the ward.
Concerned about the surgery's success, Derrick tried to remain calm, though skeptical of Olive's abilities. "Ugly girl, I don't know why my grandmother chose you, but you can't afford any mistakes. If the operation fails, you'll face consequences. I'll have someoneโ"
Before he could finish, Olive slapped him hard across the face.
Silence fell. The bodyguards stared in shock. What had Olive done? How dare she strike the crown prince? Derrick, too, was stunned. No one, except his grandmother, had ever dared to touch him.
Olive withdrew her hand, looking at him calmly. "Please be more polite in the future." She entered the operating room and closed the door firmly.
Regaining his composure, Derrick exclaimed, "Damn, this girl is wild! I need to tame her!"
Marvin and Olive entered. Mrs. Robert's brain tumor was extremely dangerous; the operation's success rate was estimated at less than ten percent, making it a global sensation.
The eight-hour operation stretched from morning to evening. The red light above the operating room door remained on, and no one emerged.
At six o'clock, as twilight deepened, the door finally opened. Olive stepped out, her white coat pristine.
Dean Sebastian, Director Hudson, Divine, and others rushed forward, but Derrick was faster, intercepting Olive. "Ugly girl, how was the surgery? How is my grandmother?" he asked nervously.
Olive removed her mask, revealing a sweat-drenched forehead. Amidst the anticipation, she smiled. "The operation was successful."
A collective cheer erupted. The surgery deemed a failure by the medical community had succeeded! Derrick's anger evaporated.
"Ugly girl, you're lucky. Thank your lucky stars," he said.
Before he could continue, Olive's legs gave way, and she slumped to the ground. Derrick caught her, surprised by the softness of her body. It was unlike any other embrace heโd experienced.
Divine quickly took Olive from Derrick's arms and helped her sit. "Olive, are you okay?" she asked anxiously.
Dean Sebastian chuckled softly. "The operation was long; Olive's exhausted. Just get her some water; she'll be fine."
The operating room door opened, and a nurse wheeled out Mrs. Robert, still asleep but recovering well.
Derrick looked at Olive, then at his grandmother. Marvin, his white coat still spotless after eight hours, exited last. "You did well today, Doctor Hart," he said in a cold, yet proud tone.
Olive, having rested, regained her strength. "Academician Augustine, you were great as well." They had first collaborated two years prior, and once again, their surgery was a triumph.
"Marvin, Olive, you're amazing! I'm treating everyone to dinner tonight!" Dean Sebastian announced excitedly.
Cheers erupted. "Long live Olive! Long live Academician Augustine!"
The Rolls-Royce Phantom arrived at the Ivory Council to collect Olive. Elvis, already aware of the successful surgery, found himself surrounded by media clamoring to capture the momentous occasion.
