Chapter 270: Sheโ€™s So Nice

Oliveโ€™s face paled. She hadn't expected Mrs. Samantha to be so ill after only three months since leaving Los Angeles. At the time, she hadn't said goodbye, fearing sadness. She'd believed Elvis's recovery would ensure her grandmother's well-being. Who knew things would worsen so drastically? Her grandmother was old; a lack of appetite meant her days were numbered.

"Olive, I think the old lady is heartbroken," North said. "Although Elvis is her grandson, she loves you like her own child. You disappeared saving Elvis; her sadness made her ill."

Olive's eyes reddened. "North, I must see Grandma. I'll find a way to help her recover! But she's in Elvis's Red Villaโ€”how can I visit?"

"I heard Elvis is hiring a chef-nutritionist," North suggested. "Olive, you could interview, giving you a reason to care for her."

Olive's eyes lit up. "Okay."

In the Red Villa, Ms. Betty, Mrs. Samantha's longtime caregiver, watched over her closely. The doorbell rang. Betty rushed to the door, finding Crystal Robert.

"Miss Robert, why are you here?" Betty asked, surprised.

Crystal smiled sweetly, holding a bag. "Mrs. Betty, I know Mrs. Samantha hasn't been eating. I'm a nutritionist. I created a recipe for her and added a dish. My people bought the ingredients; I'm here to visit."

"Miss Robert, you're so kind, come in," Betty said, stepping aside.

Crystal asked, "Where's Mrs. Samantha?"

"Upstairs. I just gave her nourishment; she's sleeping."

"Let's prepare a nutritious meal then, for when she wakes."

"Okay."

In the kitchen, Crystal gave Betty the recipe and ingredients. Unable to cook herself, she explained the process. Betty, eager to help, began preparing the meal.

An hour later, a knock sounded. "Young Master must be back," Betty said.

"Let me see," Crystal exclaimed, hurrying to the door. She saw Elvis, impeccably dressed in a handmade black suit.

"Elvis, you're back," Crystal greeted happily.

Elvis entered, his gaze falling on Crystal. "Crystal, why are you here?"

Crystal rushed to the kitchen, presenting the meal like a treasure. "Elvis, this is a nutritious meal for Mrs. Samantha. How's that? I'm good, aren't I?"

Betty remained silent, noticing Crystal's subtle attempt to take credit for Betty's work, even though she cared about Mrs. Samantha. Betty thought of Olive. If the young mistress were still hereโ€ฆ

Elvis's gaze softened. Crystal was clever, never flaunting her family's wealth, actively lowering her pride to please him. While he disliked this, he felt a degree of sympathy.

"Then let's go upstairs to visit Grandma."

"Okay," Crystal said excitedly.

Mrs. Samantha was awake, frail and weak after days of relying on parenteral nutrition.

"Grandma, are you awake?" Elvis asked, gently raising her and placing a cushion behind her. "Crystal came to visit."

"Mrs. Samantha," Crystal said meekly, "I wanted to visit for so long. I miss you. I heard you're anorexic, so I prepared a nutritious meal."

Mrs. Samantha replied softly, "It's Crystal. I'm fine, don't worry."

"Please don't be polite. I'll feed you soup," Crystal offered, spooning some and blowing on it before bringing it to Mrs. Samantha's mouth.

Mrs. Samantha drank, but then spat out the second spoonful.

"Old lady!" Betty rushed forward, patting Mrs. Samantha's back.

Crystal's ambition to impress Elvis with her culinary skills faltered. Elvis wiped the old woman's mouth. Exhausted, Mrs. Samantha waved her hand. "Elvis, take Crystal home. I don't want to eat. I want to rest."

Elvis, unable to refuse, said softly, "Grandma, we'll go home then."

Crystal looked at Elvis with disappointment and pain. "Elvis, I'm sorry."

Elvis pursed his lips. "It's not your fault. The chef's nutritious meals have made Grandma vomit. I'll take you home."

In the room, Mrs. Betty wiped Mrs. Samantha's hand. "Old lady, be happy. The young master is worried about you, wants to feed you himself. Why abandon him?"

The old woman sighed. "Betty, I've been dreaming ofโ€ฆOliveโ€ฆ"

Mrs. Betty was stunned. "I regret not letting Olive marry Elvisโ€ฆIf not for saving him, Olive would still be hereโ€ฆI'm too selfishโ€ฆ"

Betty's eyes reddened. "Old lady, if she were alive, she'd be heartbrokenโ€ฆShe was a good child. She was so niceโ€ฆ"
