Chapter 279: Elvis Was Jealous
Crystal was certain she wasn't delusional. North was the only Red Rose; no one could imitate her. Why was North here? Crystal suddenly understood: the strategist behind Watson this time was North! No wonder Watson had found a different approach; North had refused to cooperate with her and instead worked with Olive Hart. North had actually chosen Watson?
North, a red rose in the entertainment industry, understood men exceptionally well. As long as she was ready, no man could defeat her. This seemingly sweet girl easily captivated the boys. Crystal felt a stinging blow. She'd been sure Olive couldn't find North, and despised Olive, yet they'd collaborated!
Crystal inwardly criticized Lucy Moore. Lucy paled in comparison to North; she'd lost her throne and failed miserably. Crystal watched as Olive left the stage, surrounded by boys from other universities vying to connect on Facebook. A security guard rushed in, urging them to disperse to avoid a crush. Crystal knew Olive had won this battle. Everyone revolved around her; Crystal was forgotten.
Turning, Crystal saw Jason's gaze fixed on Olive. Instead of anger, she laughed. "Captain Jason," she called.
Jason snapped to attention. "Crystal, did you call me?"
"Yes, Captain. You saw it too. Watson dominated the stage. The basketball match is next; you can't afford to be merciful, or Bright Star will become a laughingstock."
Jason was confident. He'd won championships for years, understood Watson's strength, but acknowledged his own past failures. "Crystal, rest assured. I'll give it my all to defeat Watson. The championship belongs to Bright Star, forever."
"Thanks, Captain Jason. Let's go."
The basketball match began, a fierce battle between Bright Star and Watson, mirroring previous years. In the stands, Vice Principal Baker's face was grim. While the game was paramount, the cheerleaders' performances weren't ranked. Yet, Watson's opening dance had eclipsed Bright Star's, putting him at odds with Principal Harris, forcing further apologies for past boasts.
Chapter 280: Elvis Was Jealous
Principal Harris crowed, "Mr. Baker, this year's promising! Don't be upset. Our Watson students can't dance like your Bright Star 'Baby.' Hair tossing and hip shaking? I've seen better in nightclubs!"
Vice Principal Baker's face darkened. Olive's "Honey" routine was pure and cute, appealing to male students and professors alike. Initially, before Watson's performance, Bright Star's "Baby" was considered amazing. But after Watson's performance, it seemed overly sexy, reminiscent of a nightclub act.
Vice Principal Baker knew he'd lost. He was surprised; he hadn't expected Olive, whom he'd rejected, to defeat his cheerleader, Crystal Robert. He snorted, "Mr. Harris, let's watch the basketball match!"
Principal Harris, amused by Vice Principal Baker's unusual moodiness, confided in Elvis, "Mr. Baker's vision is terrible. Otherwise, he wouldn't still be vice principal. President Augustine has unique foresight; he believes Watson will win, unlike those who follow trends." Harris's jab at trend-following principals and directors elicited angry shivers.
Elvis's gaze remained fixed on Olive as she left the stage, surrounded by admirers seeking her contact information. She politely refused them all, standing with Watson's students, cheering for their team. During a break, she gave a bottle of water to Jimmy, the basketball team captain, who beamed at her after drinking. Olive spoke softly to him.
Elvis's eyebrows furrowed, his lips pursed. Crystal approached. "Elvis," she called.
He ignored her, still watching Olive. Crystal felt completely overlooked. She'd danced for Elvis, but Olive had stolen the spotlight. Now, he didn't even look at her. Noticing Elvis's displeasure, Crystal pointed out Olive's proximity to Jimmy.
"Elvis, isn't Olive with Jimmy? They seem close...maybe they're dating." She added, "Even though Olive broke off her engagement with my cousin Noal, he's still smitten and determined to pursue her. Who does Olive like? So many men adore her."
Elvis, radiating gloom, turned and left.
Watson and Bright Star had reached the finals. The championship match between them was tense; Principal Harris and Vice Principal Baker were present to cheer on their respective teams.
"Success or failure hinges on this match! You have the best cheerleaders; give it your all. Break the second-place curse and win! Understood?" Principal Harris roared.
"Understood!"
"Let's play!"
Olive and Alicia watched from the sidelines. Watson's attack was fierce, putting them far ahead of Bright Star in the first half.
