Chapter 414: Loving you is the best thing Iโve ever done
Alpha narrowed his deep eyes. He knew this couldn't be concealed; Elvis's investigation would soon uncover him. Everyone said his son was his mirror image, from business acumen to decisive action. Olive's recent activities, coupled with Elvis's own inquiries, had undoubtedly yielded significant information. While not definitively incriminating, the subtle discrepancies and unfamiliar details would fuel Elvis's suspicions. What exactly was his son suspecting?
Alpha studied Elvis's deep, troubled gaze. Outwardly calm, Elvis's handsome brows were nonetheless etched with a dark frown. His son had matured; Alpha could no longer fully fathom his heart. Elvis laughed. โDad, what are you trying to hide? Iโm suspicious.โ
Alpha coldly replied, โThen investigate. When you know the truth, you can talk to me.โ
Elvis clenched his fists, feeling Alpha's actions less like paternal guidance and more like a harsh lesson in what it means to be a father. He looked at Olive. Everyone awaited her choice: herself or Marvin. Elvis hesitated, his fist clenching and unclenching, before finally letting her decide.
Olive, without hesitation, continued treating Marvin, extracting the black liquid poison. She chose Marvin.
โProfessor Hart!โ Elle exclaimed sadly.
Olive calmly replied, โElle, you see this as a choice, but for me, it was never an option. As a doctor, the operation continues until its natural conclusion, unless we fall on the operating table.โ
The onlookers were amazed. The girl in the white coat remained composed, angelic in her calm focus. Quickly, the toxins were expelled. With a final insertion of the golden needle, Marvin's heartbeat, strong and life-affirming, registered on the monitor.
โProfessor Hart, the poison is removed.โ โProfessor Hart, his heartbeat is normal.โ โProfessor Hart, all vitals are normal.โ
โProfessor Hart, congratulations! The surgery was a success!โ
Elle and the researchers excitedly confirmed the successful treatment. Mrs. Robert wept with joy, Damien comforting her. Everyone present, having experienced Olive's skill firsthand, felt the overwhelming relief and shared the tears.
Elvis felt a wave of relief. This girl, who he perceived as capricious, flirtatious, and vain, revealed a depth of character he hadnโt known. In her white coat, she was astounding and inspiring. She was his, even though she chose Marvin. His gaze remained fixed on her, unwilling to let her go.
Marvin slowly opened his eyes.
โMarvin!โ Lily cried out.
Marvinโs eyes, initially dazed, gradually sharpened. He scanned the room, settling on Oliveโs face. In a hoarse voice, he whispered, โOlive.โ
Olive gently took his hand. โYes, Marvin, Iโm here.โ
โI had a long dreamโฆโ
โJust a dream,โ Olive reassured him. โYouโre awake now. The poison is gone, but recovery will take time. A medical sabbatical abroad would be ideal. Iโve arranged a private jet. I look forward to seeing you stronger next time.โ
Marvinโs pale face softened as he saw her โProfessor Hartโ identification card. He smiled faintly. Olive smiled back, knowing he was truly back. He clasped her hand. โOlive, loving you is the best thing Iโve ever done.โ
Olive smiled softly. โMarvin, while I canโt return your love, youโll always be my friend, as precious as anyone else.โ
Marvin understood: โanyone elseโ meant Elvis. He occupied a space in her heart reserved for those she would fight to save. A friendโthat was enough. He released her hand.
โProfessor Hart, goodbye,โ Marvin said.
Olive waved. โScholar Augustine, goodbye.โ
Marvin left. Jean scoffed. โOlive, you saved him, but missed your chance to save yourself. Think about yourself.โ
