Chapter 38: The Engagement Party
In the other presidential suite, Elvis took a cold shower and emerged wearing black silk pajamas. Raven handed him a glass of red wine.
โIโm still wondering how Olive changed your mood from gloomy to sunny,โ she remarked.
Elvis took a sip. โIs it that obvious Iโm happy?โ
Raven leaned on the table. โYou donโt even have to say it. Itโs written all over your face.โ
Elvis admitted he was in a good mood. Olive's jealousy over a phone callโshouldn't that make him happy?
The doorbell rang. It was Andrew, having rushed over after Elvis's call. He carefully observed Elvis's face. โCEO, whatโs the matter?โ
Elvis sat on the sofa. โSecretary Andrew, Rita answered my call. Why didnโt you tell me?โ
Andrew realized his CEO was quite agitated. It was just a phone call; he hadnโt taken it seriously.
โCEO, is anything wrong? Did she overhear any trade secrets?โ Andrew looked frightened.
The doorbell rang again. Andrew answered it; it was Rita, the public relations director. Naturally beautiful and charming, with long wavy hair and a striking figure, she was difficult to resist.
Andrew returned, closing the door behind him. โSir, Rita is here. She said she made you some food.โ
Raven chuckled. โItโs said a womanโs intuition is the most accurate. It seems Oliveโs jealousy isnโt random.โ
Rita had brought food, knowing Elvis had been at the bar for two days. She clearly had her eye on him. Elvis had never lacked female companionship, but Rita should have known better; he was emotionally detached.
โHold on,โ Elvis said, suddenly thoughtful.
โYes, President?โ Andrew responded.
โBring in the food, and extend my gratitude.โ
โYes, President,โ Andrew replied, heading back to the door.
Raven stared at Elvis. โOliveโs jealousy isnโt enough, huh? You still want to bring Rita closer? Are you trying to make Olive furious?โ
Elvis leaned back on the sofa, swirling his wine. He enjoyed seeing her jealous; only then did she reveal her shrewdness and tenderness. If Rita hadn't provoked her jealousy, she never would have opened her heart to him.
Derrick and Gabriellaโs engagement party was that night. Olive had agreed to attend and prepared a special gift.
Old Mrs. Samantha approached her. โOlly, Iโm going to the church to fast and pray. I might be gone for a few days. Call Elvis and tell him to come home to keep you company tonight.โ
โOkay, Grandma.โ
Mrs. Samantha left, and Olive took out her phone. She didnโt want to call Elvis. After heโd left the presidential suite that night, they hadnโt spoken. But, since Grandma instructed her, she had no choice.
She dialed his number; he answered immediately.
โHello,โ Elvisโs low, magnetic voice sounded.
Olive gripped the phone. โElvis, Grandma said sheโs gone to church to pray and fast. Sheโll be gone for a few days.โ
โIs that all she said?โ
Grandma had also asked her to tell him to come home, but Olive wouldnโt. It would seem too eager.
A pleasant voice cut in from Elvisโs end. โCEO, thereโs something I donโt understand about this contract. I need your explanation.โ Olive recognized the voice from the call earlier.
She heard Elvis's low, gentle voice. โDonโt worry, Iโll explain anything you donโt understand.โ
Olive bit her lip. Elvis seemed to remember her. โDo you have anything else to say?โ
โNo! I didnโt expect you to be without female employees. I wonโt bother you anymore!โ Olive hung up, throwing the phone into her bag. She took a deep breath. She hadnโt believed the woman was an employee; she knew many bosses had young, beautiful female employees who were also their lovers.
Olive closed her eyes, refusing to think about him. She was going to Derrick and Gabriella's engagement party.
The engagement party was held in Champagne Hills. It was luxurious and romantic. Gabriella wore a white off-the-shoulder gauze gown from Milan, her long hair braided, a dazzling crown adorning her head. She was breathtakingly beautiful.
