Chapter 58: Do You Really Like Mr. Augustine?
Pamela had rescued him. He gave her a silver pendant. Later, she used the pendant to find him, and he promised her three things: funding her foreign school fees (this was the second request), and two others.
Olive petted Phoebe when a message from North popped up on her phone. It announced that the Augustine Corporation had invested a whopping one million dollars in Hart Medical.
The news was sensational, topping headlines in major magazines and financial newspapers. This was largely due to Pamela Hart, the daughter of the wealthiest family in LA, having just returned from studying abroad. The Augustine Corporation, and its CEO, remained shrouded in mystery; no major magazine had ever photographed the CEO. The CEO's substantial investment in a beautiful woman was quite newsworthy.
The news spread rapidly, further elevating Pamela's already prominent socialite status. Her fans celebrated effusively:
โThe CEO of the Augustine Corporation is actually Pamelaโs servant!โ one commented.
โPamela, donโt settle for any less, youโre a precious star,โ another added.
At the Hart family home, Patrick collapsed into his chair upon seeing the news alert on his phone. He felt as if he were dreaming. His phone immediately began ringing incessantly.
โMr. Hart, I was wrong. I want to cooperate.โ
โMr. Hart, do you have time tonight? Iโll treat you to dinner. Can you bring Miss Pamela with you?โ
โMr. Hart, you really gave birth to a good daughter. We are far behind.โ
Previously, these same bosses had turned against Patrick; now, they were all vying for his favor. He felt his moment of triumph had arrived.
Pamela entered.
โDad.โ
Patrick, looking at Pamela as if she were a national treasure, asked incredulously, โPamela, is it really President Augustine who gave you $1.2 million?โ
โYes, Dad, itโs him,โ Pamela nodded.
Patrick was speechless. He had never imagined being associated with the Augustine Corporation. He marveled that his daughter had not only excelled but had achieved what he could not.
โPamela, how did you meet Mr. Augustine? Does Mr. Augustine like you?โ
Pamela smiled mysteriously. โDad, you donโt need to worry about me and President Augustine. You just need to know that I will marry Elvis Augustine.โ
Patrick was speechless.
Pamela quickly added, โDad, how about the divorce?โ
โOkay, fine,โ Patrick waved his hand, too happy to give it a second thought.
At the Red Villa, Northโs message arrived, unusually emotional. โOlive, did you see the news?โ
Olive felt a chill. She had married into the Red Villa on Pamelaโs behalf and hadnโt deliberately inquired about Elvisโs identity. However, she wasnโt oblivious. Elvis's demeanor and actions suggested someone of high business standing. She'd seen several executives playing cards with him at a bar, and his personal secretary and public relations director, Rita, called him "CEO." The coincidences were numerous; as in her conversation with North that day, his surname was Augustine. His identity was clear.
โElvis is the mysterious, low-key CEO of the Augustine Corporation and the richest man in LAโthe real โAugustineโ who spent over a million dollars to welcome Pamela,โ Olive replied.
North was stunned. After a moment, another message arrived:
โThree years ago, Pamela was the first LA citizen to enter the Holy court. I heard that Elvis Augustine, the president of the Augustine corporation, personally sent her.โ
Another message followed:
โThree years later, Pamela returned to LA, and Elvis Augustine, the president of the Augustine corporation, spent a large sum on her behalf, effectively negating Patrickโs intention to divorce Monica.โ
โThree years ago, he sent her abroad. Three years later, he welcomed her with over a million dollars. Doesnโt that ring a bell, Olive?โ
Olive fell silent, never having suspected a connection between Elvis and Pamela.
โIt seems Elvis Augustine is an ace in Pamelaโs hands,โ North messaged, her anger evident. Pamela had not only distanced herself from Monica's scandal but had also gained significant praise and sympathy. Most importantly, the man who spent $1.2 million on Pamela was Olive's new husband.
โDonโt be upset, North, this is really quite simple,โ Olive sighed. Except for Elvis's close associates, no one knew Olive was at the Red Villa.
โOlive, then you can quickly shut down Hart Medical, because half of the Augustine Corporation is yours. Youโre Elvis Augustineโs wife.โ
โThatโs true. Iโll definitely take care of Pamela. I donโt even need to speak to her. Iโll send her a lawyerโs letter, using Mrs. Augustineโs name to recover everything. Not a single penny will be left.โ
North was silent for a few seconds, then messaged, โIf you have the ability, then go ahead.โ
Olive smiled. North sent another message: โYou really like Mr. Augustine.โ
Olive didnโt reply. Instead, a new message arrived: โOlive, come pick me up at the airport later. Iโll be arriving in LA soon.โ
Olive was surprised; North had said she would be in New York for a while. โWhy did you choose to visit so soon?โ Olive asked.
โIโm afraid that you will be bullied. Pamela isnโt to be toyed with,โ North replied.
Olive smiled. Despite everything, she still had her best friend. A knock came at the door, and Mrs. Samanthaโs voice called, โOlive.โ
Olive quickly put down her phone and opened the door. The elderly woman stood there, holding a large bag of snacks. โI didnโt know what you liked to eat, so I brought this for you to choose from. I heard itโs good to watch TV while eating snacks, especially when youโre in a bad mood. Letโs try it out.โ
Looking at the old womanโs kind smile, Oliveโs eyes welled up. She knew the old lady truly loved her.
