Chapter 87
The fact that he carried the Khan family name—the bloodline—struck Chloe like a thunderbolt. Her attitude instantly turned enthusiastic. “Mr. Khan, hello! I’m Chloe Garter, Ms. Cotton’s assistant and best friend. If you need anything at all, you can—”
The words sounded harmless, but their meaning was layered. Anything? Anytime?
Henderson, however, paid her little attention, his focus solely on Belle. He chuckled lightly. “I’m amazed, Ms. Cotton. Even your assistant is so beautiful. You’re truly enviable.”
But as soon as he said it, Henderson quickly lost interest in Chloe. As a member of the Khan family, he was accustomed to countless women flocking to him. Even celebrities often failed to catch his eye. If not for Belle’s cold indifference at the hospital sparking his interest, he wouldn't have paid Chloe any attention.
Chloe, on the other hand, had been brimming with eagerness from the start. Her gaze, like any other woman's, was full of expectation and flattery. Despite her offer to be available “anytime,” Henderson felt nothing.
Chloe noticed his cold demeanor, and her heart sank. Seeing Henderson's fiery desire and focus on Belle, jealousy surged through her veins. Why did everyone adore Belle while treating her with such indifference? Why did she always have to stand in Belle’s shadow, attracting only the attention of ordinary people—most of whom just wanted her to introduce them to Belle? Chloe couldn't understand what she lacked compared to Belle.
“Ms. Cotton, let’s go. Show me around your company; I’ll arrange for my team to discuss collaboration later,” Henderson said, spinning promises too tempting to refuse. But it was a promise Belle had no choice but to entertain.
Meanwhile, Justin had arrived at Kyle’s house with his men. In front of Henderson, Justin was a groveling lackey, but to others, he was Mr. Lund, someone to be reckoned with. At this moment, Justin’s expression was cold and arrogant, far surpassing Henderson’s usual demeanor. With a look from him, his bodyguards stepped up and pounded on the door.
Moments later, Kyle opened the door. The bodyguards barked their demands, but before they could finish, Kyle glanced at Justin, shook his head with a resigned expression, and simply walked back inside to the living room to continue drinking his coffee.
Everyone froze. Not just the bodyguards, but even Justin was taken aback. What was with this composure? He didn’t ask who they were or why they were there. He just let them in and went back to drinking coffee? Justin led his men inside and walked up to Kyle, who was seated on the couch. “You know who we are?”
Kyle didn’t look at him and shook his head, completely focused on his coffee.
“If you don’t know us, why let us in without asking? What’s that supposed to mean?”
Without giving him a glance, Kyle replied flatly, “You’re here for me. Who you are doesn’t matter. You’re not here to deliver gifts, so you must be here for trouble. I don’t have time to waste on you.”
Those words… they struck someone hard. There’s no need to waste words, and you don’t look like you’re…
With a mischievous grin, he nodded and sat down across from Kyle. “Alright, not bad. You’re pretty interesting. I kind of like you. As long as you’re honest with me, I won’t make things difficult for you.”
Justin’s expression turned ice cold instantly. “Are you messing with me?”
That cold and calm demeanor made Justin so furious that he jumped to his feet. Pointing at Kyle, he exploded, “Even an idiot should know who I am by now! You dare mess with me? Are you looking to die?”
