Chapter 93
“I hope you won’t let me down, Chloe. You’re the only friend I have, after all,” Belle said, lightly tracing Chloe’s cheek with her fingers. It was a harmless touch, yet it exuded an underlying threat.
Chloe nodded fearfully, saying, “I won’t let you down, Belle. I would never even think of taking anything that belongs to you. You can have whatever you want, and I wouldn’t even glance at anything you don’t want.”
In that instant, Chloe quickly reassured Belle of her loyalty, stifling any other fanciful thoughts.
Upon hearing that, Belle nodded slightly with satisfaction and said, “It’s good that you think that way, Chloe. You don’t need to stay with me today. You can go meet up with Faith instead. You’re longtime friends, after all. You can probably try to ease things between us.
“You see, Faith, being so naive and kind-hearted, is easily deceived. I bet she must be feeling upset after she saw me hugging Kyle earlier—and I’m certain of it after hearing what she said afterward. You should go console her, and while you’re there, don’t forget to appraise the ‘Snow White Love’ jewelry set.”
Having said that, Belle took a seat and had a sip of water, satisfaction radiating from within as she believed everything was unfolding according to her plan.
She then added, “Although he might be somewhat repulsive, Henderson is still quite useful. I mean, everyone will believe whatever he says about Heaven’s Jewel, especially considering the fact that he is the heir of the Khan family.”
Chloe suddenly thought of something and asked hurriedly, “Do you think Mr. Khan might take an interest in Faith if he meets her? I mean, with a woman like Faith, I doubt Mr. Khan would let go of her so easily.”
Upon hearing that, Belle shrugged indifferently and replied, “It’s none of my business. It wouldn’t be a bad thing to let Faith go through some hardship, though. It’s fine as long as she learns her lesson and makes Kyle regret his choices. You can take care of the rest as you see fit!”
Having said her piece, Belle dismissed Chloe with a wave of her hand.
Chloe faintly nodded in understanding before walking out of the office. Yet, as she stood outside the office door, Chloe’s eyes were filled with a smoldering rage, thinking that she would never forget what had happened earlier.
Meanwhile, Henderson was sitting in his car, making his way to Kyle’s place.
Upon seeing the aggrieved look on Justin’s face, Henderson snarled, “How come you can’t even handle a nobody like him? How pathetic!”
Justin immediately burst into tears, exclaiming, “You know I’d do anything for you, Mr. Khan! I would even put my life on the line for you if that’s what it takes to get the job done. You ought to know that Kyle’s pure evil—he actually drugged all of us!
“I don’t even know what happened back then. Before we could even figure out what happened, two of our bodyguards were out cold, and the rest of us were left completely paralyzed.
“And you won’t believe this, Mr. Khan! I merely slammed my hand on his table, and he actually insisted that I grovel on the floor and apologize! It’s a blatant insult, not just to me but to you as well!”
Upon seeing Justin bawling his eyes out, Henderson slapped him across the face and snapped, “What the hell, man? You’re a grown man! Why are you weeping like a baby? You shouldn’t have even returned here! You should have just died right there and then. What an embarrassment!”
Having said that, Henderson fully believed Justin. He knew that Justin wouldn’t be bold enough to lie to him. He then narrowed his eyes and asked, “You mean to tell me that you didn’t even realize that you had been drugged? And you were so incapacitated that you couldn’t even get on your feet?” Justin nodded fervently in response, saying, “I’m telling the truth, Mr. Khan! You can confirm my story with the other guys who came along with me!”
A flicker of uncertainty crossed Henderson’s face, but it was quickly replaced by a sinister grin. “How intriguing. It seems like this mission won’t be so boring after all. It might even turn out to be more fun than I thought.”
Justin couldn’t help but feel apprehensive. It was one thing for Kyle to treat him in such a manner, but if Henderson were to be treated similarly, the latter definitely wouldn’t stand a chance against the former.
In the end, Henderson would most likely take his anger out on them. It would no longer be a matter of mere disgrace—it would likely end with them being brutally killed by Henderson.
With that in mind, Justin said thoughtfully, “I think you should reconsider heading there, Mr. Khan. You should probably have someone else tough up Kyle first before you start questioning him. You wouldn’t want to risk getting drugged by Kyle, right?”
Upon hearing that, Henderson instinctively wanted to agree. Yet, he suddenly hesitated before shaking his head, saying, “I’m sure he wouldn’t dare to act against me. And surely, it’s Kyle who’s calling the shots. I’m sure he’s not happy with the deal. Maybe he wants to work under me, so he’s using this chance to impress me. It wouldn’t be a bad thing to have someone like him on my side.”
The revised passage corrects numerous grammatical errors, improves sentence structure, and enhances readability. It also removes inconsistencies in character names (e.g., Bella/Belle). Some minor ambiguities remain, but these are inherent in the original text.
