Chapter 101: A Taste of Her Own Medicine
This was beyond calculation. Such a pathetic lie, yet the Xander family believed it without question. In their eyes, Denise could never be anything but the sweetest, most innocent girl in the world.
The Xander family completely believed James's words, yet not a single one blamed Denise. Instead, they turned on James, treating him as the real problem. Bradley was the first to speak. “Mr. Coleman, that $700,000 wasn’t just to show appreciation for you taking care of Sierra all these years—it was also Denny’s way of supporting you. Besides, you never actually took care of Sierra. If we had known how much she suffered in the Coleman family, we wouldn’t have given you a single cent.”
Sierra looked at Bradley, who was fuming with anger. But instead of feeling touched, she found it laughable. If they cared about her even a little, they would have known she had been living miserably in the Coleman family. Her clothes, the scars on her body—everything was right in front of them, yet they turned a blind eye. In their eyes, only Denise mattered. And now they had the nerve to say, “If we’d known?” Please.
James was nothing but a scumbag, and the moment he heard Bradley’s words, he wasn't having it. He immediately started arguing with the Xander family, making an even bigger scene. What was supposed to be a pleasant dinner to strengthen family bonds had spiraled into a disaster. Sierra watched the chaos for a moment, but it quickly stopped being entertaining. Losing interest, she got up and prepared to leave.
Denise had been watching her the whole time. The second she saw Sierra trying to slip away, she stepped forward, blocking her path with a furious glare. “You started all this, and now you’re just going to walk away?”
“What does any of this have to do with me?” Sierra gestured towards James and Yulia. “That’s your biological mother.” Then she pointed at the Xander family. “And that’s your adoptive family—your brother and parents. They’re all connected to you, not me. The only reason they’re fighting is because of you. Since you’re so capable, I’m sure you’ll have no problem handling both sides. Think of it as my way of returning the favor. I’m sure you’ll figure something out.” Sierra smiled. “A gift in return—no need to thank me.” With that, she walked away without looking back.
She had definitely set Denise up today. Yesterday, she had specifically asked Bradley whether Denise knew the Coleman family would be showing up. When she learned that Denise had no clue, she made sure to tell Bradley not to inform her—saying it would be a surprise.
James wasn’t someone who could be brushed off easily. Denise was in for a rough time. And Yulia? She might seem easier to deal with than James, but she had a real knack for playing the victim. She could cry and manipulate better than Denise ever could. It would be interesting to see which of them put on the better performance.
Sierra had suffered for so many years. It was about time Denise got a taste of it. With James and Yulia clinging to her, the Xander family wouldn’t be getting any peace either. They love Denise so much, don’t they? Then keep on spoiling her—and deal with the consequences!
As soon as Sierra stepped out of the hotel, she felt a wave of relief wash over her. But just then, her phone rang—it was Jonathan.
She answered out of curiosity, but whatever he said on the other end made her expression shift instantly. Her hands trembled. “I’ll be right there!”
She rushed to the hospital as fast as she could. Jonathan was waiting outside. The moment he saw her, he quickly reassured her, “Dickson’s fine. He got a little worked up, but he’s asleep now.”
“What the hell happened?” Sierra demanded. Everything had been fine when she left earlier, yet out of nowhere, Jonathan called to tell her Dickson had ended up in the hospital.
“Was it because of the injuries from yesterday?”
“No,” Jonathan explained. “I got back just in time to see him heading out. I noticed something off about the way he was walking, so I followed him. Turns out, he went straight to Dynasty Club—the same place from last night. That’s when I knew something was wrong. I stopped him, but he got agitated. He had a knife hidden in his pants. His demeanor was off, so I knocked him out and brought him here. When he woke up, he completely lost it. The doctors couldn’t even examine him, so they had to sedate him.”
Hearing this, Sierra felt a chill run down her spine. She had really thought Dickson had come to his senses. Who knew he had just been pretending? He hadn’t let it go at all. He was planning to take those people down with him. What an idiot!
If he had really gone in there with a knife, not only would he have failed to get revenge, but he would have ruined his own life. He’d end up just like his sister, locked behind bars. And once he was in there, he’d finally know what it meant to be in hell.
She didn’t even want to think about what would have happened if Jonathan hadn’t been paying extra attention. If he hadn’t stopped Dickson in time, there’s no telling how badly this could have ended. Dickson’s fate would have been sealed.
