Chapter 113: A Gathering of Ghouls

“Such people deserve a lesson.” Jonathan’s words resonated deeply with Sierra. Since her release from prison, the Xander family’s attitudes had shifted slightly; they might have felt a hint of guilt, but it was so minimal that at the first sign of trouble, they were quick to abandon her and push her to the forefront.

With the plan set, Sierra wasn’t in a hurry. She went to the institute first to copy her recent research records. These documents were undeniable, clearly showing the dates and content of her work. Then, she organized her own drafts and other related materials.

The weekend arrived quickly, bringing the time Sierra had agreed to meet Kason. This time, Kason took Sierra to a party—essentially a gathering of wealthy heirs. Sierra had become quite well-known in Maviston recently, and hardly anyone didn’t know her name. As she entered with Kason, someone whispered, “Can her frame withstand Mr. Kason’s antics?”

“Well, she’s a daughter of the Xander family; Mr. Kason probably won’t go too far!”

“You don’t know; Mr. Kason likes the thrill. I heard he had another incident last week, had to call a doctor in the middle of the night. No idea what happened after that.”

As Kason and Sierra approached, the group fell silent. These were Kason’s fair-weather friends, and his intention in bringing Sierra was to introduce her to them. Without a doubt, he and Sierra were headed towards engagement and marriage. From their interactions, it was clear Sierra perfectly suited his tastes. He even thought that in the future, he might not need to drug Sierra; she could be willing to explore various scenarios with him, and perhaps, she might even bring some new ideas to the table. With this thought, Kason flashed a pleased smile.

In stark contrast to his good mood, Sierra felt unusually down. She had hoped for some progress today, but instead, Kason had actually started making his moves on her. How long will it take for me to find evidence of Kason’s crimes? Am I really going to have to marry him? She didn’t have the patience for that, especially thinking about Dickson at home, who dared not even leave the house, which only added to her agitation.

At that moment, Kason led her to greet someone. “This is Mr. Yeager, a good friend of mine, and this is Sierra, the daughter of the Xander family.” Kason introduced Sierra to Brendan.

Upon hearing Brendan’s name, Sierra looked up involuntarily and saw a somewhat tall, rugged-looking man. He waved at her. “Long admired, Ms. Xander.”

This was Brendan, the one who had bullied Dickson. With resentment in her heart but a dangerously sweet smile on her face, Sierra responded, “Mr. Brendan, what a pleasure.”

“Mr. Brendan owns the Dynasty Club. I’ll take you there sometime for fun, though it’s not really my scene,” Kason whispered in Sierra’s ear. Sierra glanced at the person next to Brendan, getting a sense of what Kason meant. The young man beside Brendan looked frail, his eyes filled with fear and pain, clearly there against his will. This explained why they got along so well.

Sierra asked, “And who is this? Mr. Brendan, aren’t you going to introduce him?”

Brendan replied nonchalantly, “Just some minor entertainment. I can’t even remember all their names, so I won’t bother introducing him to Ms. Xander.”

Suddenly remembering something, Brendan showed a meaningful smile and said, “I had a fierce little puppy once, but then his family came and took him back. It’s been a long time since I’ve had such a tasty little puppy… the flavor was really something.”

As Brendan reminisced, Sierra clenched her fists. She knew who Brendan was talking about, and he was deliberately provoking her. She was aware that Brendan knew about her attempt to retrieve someone from the club that day.

Sierra suddenly turned cold, asking directly, “Who are you referring to as that puppy?”

Brendan paused, taken aback by her question, and before he could respond, Sierra added, “I’m very protective, and I don’t have much to lose. Just the other day, I happened to visit the Dynasty Club. I heard that’s your place, Mr. Brendan?”

As Brendan’s smile faltered, his inherently fierce face grew even more menacing, but Sierra’s expression didn’t change in the slightest.
