Chapter 132: Morning After Realities
The next day, when Sierra woke up, she felt engulfed in darkness, as if she were back in those sunless days. Startled, she instinctively tensed in defense. As she moved, the motion-sensing lights in the room flickered on, and she could finally see her surroundings. Hearing a noise, the door swung open, and Jonathan entered.
“Awake?”
“Mr. Yeager?”
Seeing Jonathan snapped her back to reality. Noticing her pale complexion, Jonathan threw the curtains open, letting the sunlight pour in. Sierra finally relaxed completely. Noticing this, Jonathan’s eyes darkened slightly; he realized Sierra was afraid of the dark.
“Where is this?”
Sierra looked around, already guessing, and Jonathan’s response confirmed her suspicion.
“This is my bedroom!”
Sierra opened her mouth; she had stayed at Jonathan’s place before but had never entered his bedroom. The décor was like him: simple yet sophisticated.
Jonathan glanced at her with a hint of amusement. “You were drunk yesterday. Not even a full bottle of beer, and you were out!”
Sierra, unusually embarrassed, hadn’t realized her tolerance was so poor. She couldn’t remember much from the night before, only that she had been very happy.
“I didn’t do anything… did I?” she asked uncertainly.
Jonathan glanced at her lips. “You did!”
Sierra’s heart skipped a beat. “What did I do?”
Seeing Jonathan’s gaze fixed on her lips, she felt inexplicably nervous; surely not… She didn’t dare think further, and Jonathan’s next words made her want to escape on the spot.
“You said I was very handsome, and…”
“Stop!” Sierra cut him off urgently; she couldn’t bear to hear more.
Despite the awkwardness, Sierra bravely said, “I’m really sorry, Mr. Yeager. I was drunk last night; I didn’t know what I was saying.”
It sounded like a classic dodger’s excuse, but that’s all Sierra could say. “So, it doesn’t count?”
Jonathan looked at her, his expression cooling. Sierra, feeling bold, nodded.
Jonathan smiled faintly. “But what if I took it seriously?” He continued with interest, ignoring her shocked look. “You didn’t just say I was handsome; you kissed me, said you liked me, asked if I wanted to be your boyfriend, and…”
10:58 AM
Sierra covered her head, unable to face Jonathan, fully believing what he said.
Because deep down, she really felt that way; she had been restraining herself, her reason reminding her of the gap between them, yet she knew Jonathan was different for her. She thought she could keep it hidden forever, fooling both Jonathan and herself. She hadn’t expected a single beer to ruin it all. She didn’t know how to face Jonathan now; her panic urged her to flee, but Jonathan blocked her at the door, saying things that made her heart race.
“So, you really plan to deny it?”
Sierra looked down, unable to meet Jonathan’s gaze, and obviously didn’t see the amusement and warmth in his eyes.
“Mr. Yeager, I’m really sorry, I was drunk, I…”
She wanted to say it wasn’t intentional, but Jonathan cut her off.
“Denying it won’t work; I heard everything, and I already agreed!”
“What?” Sierra instinctively looked up. Could it be what she thought?
Jonathan looked down into her eyes. “You asked if I wanted to try being with you, and I said yes!”
Sierra felt as if her mind had exploded; his words echoed in her head. He agreed! He agreed!
Rarely seeing Sierra so stunned, Jonathan found it somewhat amusing. He lightly caressed her cheek. “So, don’t think about denying it, Sierra. Let’s give it a try!” He was also curious to see how long his concern for Sierra would last. Having lived nearly three decades, this was the first time he cared so much about someone.
The moment his warm fingers touched her skin, Sierra finally snapped out of it. Her eyelashes fluttered as she looked up at the tall man in front of her, then suddenly stepped back.
